As followers of Jesus, we’re called to a kind of integrity where our “yes” or “no” carries so much weight that swearing becomes unnecessary, because our character speaks louder than any oath we could take. And it all started with a snake in a garden. As Christians, we’re called to be people of truth, not just with our words but with our actions.

Maybe it's because we’re unwilling to even be inconvenienced or uncomfortable, let alone suffer like he did. He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things, the One who holds the universe—and our lives—together. He shows us who God is and restores his image in us. Don't get distracted by lesser things. What does how we live and give tell us about how much we value Jesus? If he’s not worth more than our finances, we’ll never be free to follow him.

We get lulled into a false sense of security, believing we’re the exception to God’s rules. But the consequences of sin will always catch up to us. God’s grace isn’t given as a license to sin—it’s meant to draw us to repentance.
