This sermon from Daniel 5 presents the question: Do you live with a sense of eternal urgency or earthly complacency? Please join Pr. Edgar Nunez as he continues the Dare to Be series. 

As we jump into Daniel 4, it's important to note something unique: this is the only chapter in the Bible written by a pagan king.  It’s King Nebuchadnezzar’s personal account of how Yahweh intervened in his life, humbling Nebuchadnezzar before God brought about transformation and restoration. 

It’s been said every person has a price — that given the right offer, the right pressure, or the right threat, even the strongest convictions can crumble. Maybe it’s wealth. Maybe it’s acceptance.  Maybe it’s safety. Today we meet three men who showed Babylon — and us — that some convictions aren’t for sale at any price. 

Jesus Christ is the stone the builders rejected, but he has now become the cornerstone for a whole new world.  If you understand Jesus in those ways, you can live a life like Daniel.  Dare to be a Daniel, a real Daniel.  Not the self-made, self-reliant person that we strive to be, but the God-saved, God-reliant person Jesus died to make us be. 

The example of Daniel teaches us to not blame God for our pain but to run to Him in faith in the midst of it. We are living in Babylon, this world, in the midst of an invisible system that is opposed to God. What should be our response?

Being a good neighbor begins by coming into the kingdom yourself.  The transformation of regeneration.  But a citizen of the kingdom always has a calling.  To speak the gospel, share it with words.  To show the gospel, share it by being a merciful catalyst of change.  Will you receive it?  Will you do it?  Will you be it?

The war is over, we are freed, our future is changed, and our headline is rewritten! This is all because of the gospel, the good news that God saves sinners, no matter their story, through Christ. It is good news for everyone!

Just as Joshua made a choice, so must we. Are we going to be a Christian home in name only, blending in with the culture, or will we be a Christ-centered home? Let’s make our choice: we will serve the Lord.

One by one, the victories will be read and celebrated. The scoreboard will tell the story. But it’s not going to talk about how great we were. It’s going to tell the incredible story of how great God was.

Post-surrender, we walk in the Spirit.  What’s that mean?  We constantly depend on His strength, remain aware of our need, stay confident in His work and submit to His leading.  Guess what happens?  God shows up again.  His promises are there again. 

Our openness to and desire to follow God and to his people is a preview into our future fate. Are you hiding behind walls or gathering up people to protect?
