Hound on the Run - Audio Edition

For this week's episode, I had on my good buddy Seth Hall who is just about the most enthusiastic hound hunter I know. He knows how to have a good time and has a borderline unhealthy obsession with not only his sighthounds, but the almighty hare they pursue. I decided to skip the intro and just get straight into the conversation. I hope you enjoy it. Seth is a member of the Houndsman XP team and y...

I'm flying solo on the podcast this week and bringing you the most interested hound and wildlife-related content I could find on the Internet. Oliver Anthony has taken the world by storm with his hit song "Rich Men North of Richmond" but did you know that he is a hunter and also let's hound hunters access his property? Well, it's true and I think that's just freaking phenomenal. And for that discu...

On this week's episode I interview a very special guest who you likely know if you've spent any time on YouTube watching hound videos. He is the OG "HoundTuber," the one and only, Brett Vaughn. Throughout the interview we learn all about Brett's history with dogs, starting with Airedales and running coyote dogs (sighthounds) before discovering his true love of dry ground lion dogs. I had a great t...

I made a mistake! This week's episode was supposed to feature a special guest, but I made a technological error that cost me the whole recording … so, I had to take a different approach and decided to share some details about how I'm preparing for the upcoming bobcat season here in Oregon. In this episode, I talk about: * How I'm preparing my dogs for the upcoming bobcat pursuit season * What I us...

On this week’s episode, I am joined by Josh Michaelis from the Joy Dog Food company. We had a great conversation all centered around our shared love of hound dogs and I peppered him with the many questions I have about competition coon hunting since it is so much different than how I hunt with my dogs. I learned a lot and oddly enough, forgot to ask all the dog-food related questions I had queued...

Howdy ya'll. On this week's podcast, I highlight an important news story that could be a big deal for South Dakota hound hunters, cover a couple actions to take on Howl for Wildlife's website to help our Canadian brethren out, plus we look at a few incidences in which wildlife and humans collide in odd, unexpected ways. I also speculate as to why our fearless leader Brandon’s dog keeps biting ever...

This week I’m flying solo and bringing you a healthy dose of hound and wildlife-related news. The main story I cover hits particularly close to home and if you are a hound hunter in Oregon or Washington, the implications of the decisions of a certain private land owner just might change how — or more like where — you hunt with your hounds this upcoming season. Check it out, leave a comment, give i...

On this week’s podcast, my co-host Taylor is back in the hot seat for another exciting episode covering a wide range of topics all centered around hounds, the animals we pursue, and pretty much anything that touches the lives of my fellow hound hunters all around the world. In the intro, I share some details about a new livestream series I got invited to be a part of with Brett Vaughn of the Born...

This week I have my fellow HoundTuber (hound + YouTuber … get it?) Chris from Anecdote of a Houndsman. He recently published a video about building a dog box out entirely recycled or reused materials. I have been planning on building a new dog myself for a while, so I thought this was a great opportunity to catch up with Chris, talk about dog boxes, and get some ideas. The man is a DIY juggernaut...

This week, we’re switching up the podcast a bit by sharing the first chapter of my soon-to-be-released audiobook. I published Cat Dog Chronicles about 10 months ago, and had always planned on releasing an audiobook version … and I finally got it done. I still have some final mixing to do on it, but the since the first chapter is ready to go, I figured why not put it out on the podcast to give folk...

This week we talk about a big announcement in the hunting dog publishing industry, cover news stories about recent mountain lion and bear attacks, and Niklas is challenged to dog fact trivia with spicy consequences! We now have a voicemail box for our podcast listeners! If you hear something we say on the podcast and want to share some commentary, have a fact check for us, want to tell us a relate...

On this week's episode we have a special co-host on who is one of the most hardcore beagler's I know. Her name is Missy Fix and we had a great conversation that covered everything from her start with dachshunds to her current 6-pack of rabbit beagles she hunts with all over Oregon. We also covered some current events happening and reacted to some ridiculous videos. Check it out and let us know wha...

Good day my fellow hound runners. Today we bring you a new episode of the Hound on the Run Podcast and I must warn you that this one is not necessarily safe for work or children due to the ridiculous nature of some of the topics we cover and some of the naughty words spoken. Perhaps we had a bit too much fun recording, and perhaps I have blurred the lines between hound-related content and comedic...

Hey everyone! I’m very excited to announce that the Hound on the Run Podcast is back in action. It has been over two years ago since I published my last episode, and at that point, I had decided to shelf the podcast because I just had too much going on. But now, we’re changing up the format and I’m bringing on a very special co-host to official reboot the podcast — listen to find out who it is! Be...

Last week on the podcast, I mentioned that I was taking my dogs to the first Fern Ridge Tree Hound Club field trial of the year. Well, I did, and what an experience it was. I have to admit that the whole event was a bit overwhelming for me and my dogs and it took me a few days to gather my thoughts to the point where I could actually talk about how it went. It wasn’t anything crazy, just a new exp...

Today I’m flying solo for a quick lil’ hitter. First, I share some info about the Fern Ridge Tree Hound Club field trial happening this weekend. If you would like to learn more about the field trial, feel free to reach out to Charlie Merrifield through the Fern Ridge Tree Hound Club Facebook page. You can also subscribe to the Fern Ridge Tree Hound Club newsletter that Charlie just launched here....

In this week's episode, I interview my good buddy Jason Duby. Jason is the Director of Customer Relations and Communications at Double U Hunting Supply, and as we talk about in the episode, he is also one of the very first people I met who also owned hounds. If you don’t know about Double U, you’ve probably never searched for anything hound-related online – especially when it comes to the gear we...

Man, I love artists. Humble, talented artists are even better. And artists who make hound art? Maybe the best kind of artist there is. Derek Tormanen — AKA Outer Agenda Artwork (@outer.agenda.artwork) — is one of those artists who makes stunning hound art and graphic design. He also happens to be a super chill dude who’s slowly taking the hound world by storm with his designs. Check out Derek’s wo...

It is so refreshing to speak with someone who takes themselves seriously, knows what they like doing, and strives to do what they do at the highest level. That’s the vibe I got from today’s interview guest, Jordan Wright. Jordan is definitely more legit than me and likely more legit than you. Although she’s a young houndsman, she has over 14 years of experience handling hounds and comes from a fam...

In today’s episode, I interview my good hunting buddy Charlie Merrifield. Since I spend a lot of time with Charlie, I forgot to cover the basics like where he’s from and all that, so let me take a second to fill you in on some background. Charlie grew up in Northern California in a family that raised and ran sled dogs, but now lives in Salem, OR, and is an avid hunter of the raccoon with his 3-pac...

In this second episode of the Hound on the Run Podcast, I’m kicking off what I envision to be recurring series called Portrait of a Houndsman where I interview anyone willing to talk with me about their dogs to show a glimpse into the diverse world of hound hunting. First up is Ben Sheets (@treetalkinmedia on Instagram). Ben is a tree dog enthusiast of over 13 years out of Pennsylvania who got sta...

“But what’s awesome about coon hunting is that it’s so … audible. You hear those dogs, and when they start baying and howling like they do, you know they got something; you don’t have to see to know that.” I have had this in the works for a while, and though there were many delays, it's finally here: The first audio edition of Hound on the Run. Think of it as a podcast if you’d like, because I gue...
