His Beautiful Mess

Life has gotten a little rocky this year. The things I thought were stable have shifted due to life's circumstances, but even in the midst of the storms we navigate through in this life, we are able to lean into God and rely on the firm foundation He offers us.

As we enter into a new year we tend to create goals, lists, or even a "word" for the year, and are faced with anticipation of what it will bring, but sometimes a new year carries with it pain or loss from that the previous year held.  Today we talk briefly about those struggles but shift our focus on the opportunities that a new year brings with it, including the gift of faith.

Christmas Gift was a tradition that dates back to the 1800's and I share this tradition, that our family has carried on throughout the years, with you today. 

Reflecting on the day of Thanksgiving in our family means asking yourself what you are thankful for but what about when things aren't going "smoothly"?  Can you still find an attitude of gratitude?

Life happens, busy seasons hit, but if we aren't careful we find ourselves pulling away from the things that actually spiritually strengthen us.  This week I discuss the pitfall's of those time periods and how we truly find strength in those that surround us.   

They say "timing is everything".  I personally feel there is truth to that statement, especially when it's regarding God's timing.  I learned that lesson again this week.   (Scripture from the episode is from Joshua 10:1-14)

Jesus said, "you will know the truth and the truth will set you free." But how can we really know what the truth is when there are so many distractions that make us question . . . what is truth? 

Every ending in life, will inevitably guide us towards a new beginning; Ecclesiastes chapter 3. 

People talk frequently about finding the "love of their life". I couldn't help but wonder if that statement was true, I mean is the "love of your life" something that can really be obtained?  Do we even comprehend the depth of that statement, or is it just a phrase that gets thrown around hap heartedly? The making of new wine requires a crushing and pressing process in order for the grapes to become a wine that we can consume.  I have found that our walk with God contains it's own crushing and pressing process in order to take us from the person we are today to the person God desires us to be. 

Nothing went as planned these last two weeks.  I was faced with the brutal reality that my expectation was on a collision course with reality in a devastating way. The question was how would I choose to navigate through it?  How could I step back and let someone else take charge, or allow God to have the reins?  

I recently put new sod down and it required consistent watering in order to grow and thrive as it was intended.  I realized just like my new sod needs water so do we, both literally and spiritually.  That's why Jesus tells us in John chapter 7 verse 38; rivers of living water will flow from our hearts.  The question is, how are we tapping into that resource and what are we deciding...
