4.17 Iowa fell to #8 Creighton on the road in an early season test. Say it ain’t so, Cooper! 17.11.2023

Iowa traveled to #8 Creighton but fell 92-84. Creighton got hot ti start the 2nd half and had to play catch up after that. The new guys, including four try freshmen are holding their own. So sorry to hear about the Cooper DeJean injury. He’s an all time Hawkeye! One of my favorites. Shout out to honorary captain Noah Shannon this weekend!!

4.16 The Iowa offense put up 400 yards and the defense shut out Rutgers. The Illini is next! 13.11.2023

The Hawkeye offense put up 402 yards on Saturday, while Rutgers couldn’t do anything against Phil Parker’s defense. 8-2 feels good with the jolly old elf and the Fighting Illini coming to Kinnick on Saturday. Illinois is now a passing offense with a poor rushing game and a mediocre defense. The Hawkeyes need a win at Kinnick to clinch the West!

4.15 The Hawkeye W flag is flying at a Wrigley! Rutgers next. Nice opening game for Fran’s guys! 09.11.2023

4.15 Iowa pulled another one out after a 0-0 tie at halftime to win 10-7 on a 52 yard field goal by Drew Stevens. A Big Ten West-like Rutgers comes to Kinnick on Saturday, and the Hawkeyes need to keep winning to take the West! It was an impressive debut for the Iowa Men’s basketball team with a win over North Dakota. The newcomers looked good, and the offensive output came from a lot of individua...

4.14 Iowa basketball preview! Fran has 11 guys vying for key minutes. NW fball preview. Brian news. 01.11.2023

Fran’s Hawkeyes start the season against North Dakota in less than a week. With six newcomers, two bigs from the transfer portal and four true freshman, this is an interesting team. There is a nice core of two returning starters and the Big Ten’s sixth man of the year, in Payton Sandfort, plus two intriguing sophomore guards in Bowen and Dix. I preview the NW football game that will be played at W...

4.13 Floyd was STOLEN by the refs!! The invalid fair catch call was the worst in Big Ten history! 24.10.2023

The referees decided to steal Floyd from the Hawkeyes on Saturday with a phantom invalid fair catch call after a punt return TD by Cooper DeJean. Not one person in the stadium thought there was anything wrong with the play, and once we saw Coop was clearly in bounds, it was celebration time. A ref decided to take the law in his own hands and stick it to the Hawkeyes. One of the most electric plays...

4.12 Iowa retains the Heartland Trophy at Wisconsin. Next up is a home game with a pig on the line! 18.10.2023

15-6 may not impress too many people across the country, but the Hawkeyes got a nice road win in Madison. Iowa is in the driver’s seat to win the Big Ten West, but they need to keep winning. PJ Fleck is rowing into town on Saturday with a passing game almost as statistically unimpressive as Iowa’s. Can the Hawkeyes win a second border rivalry game in as many weeks? Yes, in a low scoring game, of c...

4.11 Iowa beat Purdue in a game of oddball plays! Next is a road game against the hated Badgers! 11.10.2023

There were so many strange plays in Kinnick on homecoming that it felt like a Halloween game. Nonetheless, the Hawkeyes got the win 20-14, although it seemed like it should have been 34-14. It was great having Kaleb Johnson back running the ball like last year. Next up is a road game in Mad Town. Do not go downtown after the game. I learned that lesson years ago, as Badger fans are the worst in th...

4.10 Despite a devastating injury to QB1, the Hawkeyes got a W. Next up homecoming vs Boilermakers! 06.10.2023

Cade McNamara tore his ACL on the second possession of the game for the Hawkeyes. Big Deacon Hill came in and did enough to help secure a win with a lot of help from MSU turnovers and excellent special teams play. Next up are the Boilers. Jeff Brohm is at Louisville now, but this looks like a pretty good offense, coming off putting up 44 points against Illinois. Go Hawks!

4.9 Iowa’s paltry offense led to a loss at PSU. Can they right the ship at home vs the Spartans? 25.09.2023

The statistics tell the story of an offense that couldn’t do anything right and a defense that was on the field all night. Four first downs. A total of 76 total yards of offense. Just 14 and a half minutes time of possession. Can the Hawkeyes shake it off and get a win against the Spartans? Can the offense make strides after one of the worst performances of the Ferentz era?

4.8 The Hawkeyes are 3-0 headed into Big Ten play. A white out at PSU is next!! 18.09.2023

The Hawkeyes started slow, but the offense got it going, gaining over 250 yards on the ground. The rushing game looked good, while the passing game had some struggles. Will Cade be healthy and ready to sling it on Saturday? Can Iowa pull off an upset in a White Out at Beaver stadium!?

4.7 It is the Hawkeye state! The Cy-Hawk Trophy is back where it belongs in Iowa City! 10.09.2023

It was close to a runaway win but execution failed the Hawkeyes on a few big plays. The Cyclones tried to come back, but the Hawkeyes stuffed the Cyclones on a 4th and 1. The “elite” Matt Campbell is 1-6 against the Hawkeyes. Kirk Ferentz had a rough 0-4 start against the Cyclones but is 14-6 since the slow start. Is Jack Trice Kinnick West? Go Hawks!!

4.6 Iowa beat Utah St but didn’t run the ball efficiently. ISU preview and Cy-Hawk prediction! 07.09.2023

The Hawkeyes are 1-0 after beating Utah State on a hot Saturday at Kinnick. After a big first quarter for the offense, some troubling trends emerged, mostly around running the football. It’s just week one, so it’s not time to panic yet. A 2-0 start with a win over Iowa State is just what the doctor ordered. Can the Hawkeyes go into Jack Trice and come out with a sixth win in a row in Ames?

4.5 Iowa vs Utah State preview! What to look for on the field and how to beat the heat at Kinnick! 25.08.2023

The Utah State Aggies invade Kinnick Stadium on Labor Day weekend, where they will run into a buzzsaw of a defense and an improved offense. Will Cade be ready to go? Will we see what QB2 looks like? How many yards for Kaleb Johnson? Which receivers will shine, and will we see plays down field in the passing game? Excitement is in the air with football returning, and it’s exciting to soon be able t...

4.4 Iowa FB is almost here! A healthy Cade will unleash the offense. Fran has some guys this year! 18.08.2023

The Iowa offense needs and deserves a healthy Cade this football season. He seems like a great guy, leader and football player and is the key to Iowa getting to ten plus wins. More football discussion in this episode, and what is the buzz about Fran’s basketball team? There are a lot of new guys and a lot of intriguing players on this year’s men’s basketball team. I keep being more and more intrig...

4.3 Hawkeye football predictions for the 2nd half of 2023. Three trophy games in the last six games! 22.07.2023

In episode 4.2, I predicted wins and losses for the first six games and had the Hawkeyes at 5-1. This episode covers the last half of the season. Will the momentum continue with three trophy games in the last six games? Will PJ Fleck drop to 0-7 against Captain Kirk? Go Hawks!

4.2 Hawkeye football predictions for the first six games of 2023 and some miscellaneous FB topics 19.07.2023

The 2023 schedule, combined with a proven quarterback and a more experienced offensive line, position the Hawkeyes for a successful football season. Listen to my predictions for the first half of the 2023 season and some more discussion on Cade, the OL and NIL with the nee Swarm Beer and Swarm Vodka! Go Hawks!!

4.1 Newcomers on the football and basketball teams are driving excitement for the upcoming seasons 29.06.2023

Transfer Portal Kirk came through in the offseason, and the Hawkeyes offense is set to break out next season. Basketball didn’t have quite as much success in the portal but filled some needs in the post and have four intriguing incoming freshmen. Are the gridiron Hawkeyes going to break out on offense? Can the NCAA streak stay alive for the men’s basketball team? It remains to be seen, but the new...

3.45 Final episode of the season, hitting on basketball and football topics. Go Hawks! 05.05.2023

Caitlin Clark is the goat on and off the court. Can Fran land another post player in the transfer portal? Iowa football is getting it done in the transfer portal. How much can the offense improve next season?

3.44 The 8 seed Hawkeyes fell to 9 seed Auburn in Rd 1 of the NCAA Tournament. 17.03.2023

The Hawkeyes couldn’t overcome poor shooting and a hot Auburn team in the second half. Auburn’s overly aggressive defense seemed to bother Iowa on the offensive end. Both teams combined for 1-18 from three in the first half, and both teams hit 7 threes in the second half. The Hawks trailed by 17 after a flurry of threes by Auburn and cut the lead to four, but they couldn’t quite get over the hump.

3.43 The 8 seed Hawkeyes will face Auburn on Thursday. Iowa will face #1 seed Houston with a win! 13.03.2023

After two great wins over MSU and Indiana, the Hawkeyes struggled with a home loss to Nebraska and a loss to Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament. Those losses dropped Iowa to an 8 seed in the NCAA tournament in Birmingham, AL. It’s a huge opportunity if the Hawkeyes get past Auburn. Let’s see some March Madness and a Hawkeyes Team raining threes!

3.42 The Hawkeyes with an incredible comeback win over Sparty! Did The Staredown lead to the W??! 26.02.2023

The Spartans were hot and seemingly couldn’t miss all game long. The Hawkeyes got hot late and rained threes in the last minute to force overtime and a big conference win! After two road losses, the Hawkeyes needed this win as postseason approaches.

3.41 The Hawkeyes shot poorly from 3 in two road games last week. Can they turn it around at home? 24.02.2023

Three point shooting has been a struggle for the Hawkeyes of late. Can the shooting woes be turned around in Carver-Hawkeye arena this weekend? Tom Izzo’s Spartans are coming to town with plans to improve their Big Ten and NCAA seed. Iowa needs to win two of the last three to feel good about receiving birth in the NCAA tournament.

3.40 Iowa went 2-0 in the last week and are tied for 3rd. A gritty win at MN and the Connor game! 17.02.2023

The Hawkeyes are now 9-6 and tied for 3rd in the B1G! The game at MN was a gritty win with shots not falling. Iowa ran the Buckeyes out of the gym in the Connor McCaffery game. Connor had 7 points, 6 rebounds and 13 assists with 0 turnovers. Huge game coming up on Sunday at Northwestern.

3.39 Two home wins and a loss at #1 Purdue for Fran’s squad. Great new portal get at LB…WHY Gary? 10.02.2023

The Hawkeyes protected the home court with wins over NW and the Illini. Purdue and Zach Edey, ranked #1 in college basketball, were too much for Iowa on the road. Huge transfer portal LB commitment for the Hawks. A tackling machine and leader. Gary did Gary things and left another PR mess at Iowa. Remember to bet the over this year in Iowa games.

3.38 Iowa bball roller coaster continues with W over Rutgers! Mid-season notes and football updates. 01.02.2023

After two big wins, the Hawkeyes dropped two road games to the Buckeyes and Spartans. The best defensive team in the league then fell victim to the Iowa offense on Sunday. Review of Iowa individual stats midway through the B1G basketball season. Football portal and commitment notes. New sound system will be coming as my system is gone. Apologies for the sounds. Go Hawks!!
