Harbour Faith Community Carrickfergus
Harbour Faith Community
Sermons and workshops from the wonderful Harbour Faith Community in Carrickfergus. We are a progressive, informal church based in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland - just across from the harbour. We have Sunday services every week at 11:00am and you can keep up to date with other events via our Facebook page. In a part of the country largely dominated by a more conservative, evangelical version of Christianity, Harbour aims to provide a home for those who wish to explore the Christian faith in a more thoughtful , open and inclusive way. All Wonderers and Wanderers Welcome.

Uncrossing The Rubicon: Part 4 18.05.2025
Hell isn't even in the Bible, but many Christians still think it's a real place. Sheol, Hades, and Tartarus ARE in the Bible and most Christians DON'T think they are real places. So how did it all go to Hell?
Uncrossing The Rubicon: Part 3 05.05.2025
The cross was violent. It was sacrificial. But the violence wasn’t God’s. It was ours. And God didn’t demand it. God endured it—to show us that love was never something we had to earn.
Uncrossing The Rubicon: Part 2 30.04.2025
Cycles don't break themselves. They need to be seen. They need someone brave enough to name them. To step outside the ritual and say: "No more." That's what Jesus did. He didn't just step into the cycle of violence — He exposed it, absorbed it, and undid it from within. He showed us: The price was always too high. The God we thought needed sacrifice was never in the audience. And once you see that...
Uncrossing The Rubicon: Part 1 30.04.2025
We all start with mystery. But the shape we give it—especially when we talk about the cross—matters deeply. For many of us, the dominant story we inherited was this: We are sinful. God is holy and just. Sin must be punished. Jesus took our punishment. Now we can be forgiven - if we believe the right things about Jesus. This is often called penal substitutionary atonement—though no one called it th...
Expecting Light: Alexander John Scott 06.04.2025
The music at the end of this episode is called “Light of your Grace”. It is an expression of the Gayatri Mantra or “Universal Prayer”. Written in Sanskrit, in English it translates as: "May we meditate upon the divine light of the Supreme Creator. May this divine light enlighten our minds and guide us on the right path."
