David clearly connected his suffering with his sin. And, while most instances of suffering in the Bible aren't the result of specific sins, David's in Psalm 38 certainly was. He suffered physical, emotional, and social issues because of it. His only hope was to plead with God for mercy.

God will not forsake his people. We know this intellectually, but we struggle to accept it emotionally. Our hearts and minds tell us otherwise. We have to listen to the Word of God and continually speak the truth that God will not forsake us to ourselves.

Man is sinful in his very nature. Yet, God is gracious and kind to forgive us our sins. We must be on constant watch over our souls though.

In our final sermon on James, we deal with the call to prayer and to pursue those who've wandered from the church. James says we are to pray in every season of life: suffering, joy, and sickness. Its a pleasure to pray for one another and to confess our sins corporately. Folks who've wandered away put themselves in a dangerous position. Join us as we discuss James' timely words.

Suffering is a real and sometimes ever present reality in our lives. James encourages us to stand firm in our faith while we patiently wait for the Lord.

Mature Christians are those who follow the wisdom of God and who are not friends of the world, meaning they do not align with the beliefs, values, and behaviors of the world. Such an alignment puts us at odds with God. God's people walk and think in line with him.

When our faith in Christ works it tames the tongue. The tongue, though small, has an incredibly dangerous potential for harm. Join us as we listen to James' teaching on our tongue and consider its application to us.

True Biblical Faith in Christ is faith that works itself out practically in our lives. Genuine faith produces genuine works of righteousness for God's glory. James gives us a simple test for our simple religion. The test is this: 1. Do you control your tongue? 2. Do you have compassion of the helpless and hopeless? 3. Do you keep yourself unstained from the world?

Joel helps us deal with suffering by giving us the proper perspective and pattern for dealing with the pain while placing our faith in the great God of the Bible. He also calls us to heed the warnings of the suffering we endure. They are meant to purify us and lead us to live repentant life so we will escape the judgment of the great day of the Lord.

What is simple religion? That's a great question. James answers it by saying it is a combination of a heart commitment to Christ and a life lived in obedience to Christ and based on the word of truth. In short, it is the belief and practice of a person who's profession of faith in Christ matches his/her behavior leading to a life of consistency.

God has given us his wisdom in his word. Our responsibility is to listen to it, clean out our lives, and follow the wisdom we find in the Bible.

God tests our faith through trials in order to make our spiritual journeys complete. These tests are are good gifts from God because they come from a good God and they make us complete in Christ. God's great desire for us is to make us like Jesus -- the picture of perfect humanity. We will never reach completion or perfection on this earth, but we are sure to reach it at the Day of the Lord should...
