As with his entire Gospel, Luke wrote this morning’s passage to help us be certain that what we believe about Jesus Christ is true. In doing so, he also gives us an example of extraordinary faith in the lives of ordinary men – the shepherds chosen by God to be among the first to witness the incarnate Christ and believe in him.

Throughout the Bible, angels are often seen as messengers and servants of God who take part in the plan to redeem humanity. Today, we will see angels communicate the greatest message ever given - the birth of the Christ, the Anointed Savior of God.

The last 3 weeks we’ve studied the temptation of Christ and Trusting God. Trusting God with our comfort in life, trusting God with our control of life, and last week trusting God with the approval of others. Today we’re going to be learning to trust God with our fears.

In the first two parts of this series, we see how Jesus resisted the temptation to pursue comfort over mission and control over submission. In both temptations, a different life category was probed. Today, we will consider the final temptation - seeking the approval of others over the will of His Heavenly Father.
