Under tremendous oppression from a king who did not know Joseph, the Israelites cried out to God. They wondered where God was…where His deliverance was.

“We can know and trust God as the One who has authored each chapter in the lives of the people of Israel, whether they have faced blessing, injustice, tragedy or heartache.”

Philippians 4:10-23 draws the book to a close. In this last passage, we see that when we depend on Christ, our faith is able to thrive. As we depend on Christ, we can face life’s wins and let downs with a deep-seated contentment. In the midst of a chaotic world, we are encouraged to stand firm, be united, to rejoice, to be in prayer, and to develop righteous mindsets, leading to the peace of God and enabled by the God of peace.

Paul encourages believers to press on towards maturity and our ultimate goal of being like Jesus.

Rejoice! Nothing can compare to the joy that is knowing Jesus. Even in suffering we can rejoice because we can know Him.

Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1

Paul has just shown Christ as the model of perfect obedience and now calls for all believers to "work out their salvation" by depending fully on God's working in our lives, by ridding our lives of grumbling and question, so becoming blameless, shining stars in the midst of a broken world, and by spending our lives, as Paul did, on things that will make an eternal difference.

The spread of the Gospel is effective when believers are united in the Spirit, pursuing the same objective by intentionally putting aside SELF and living out Jesus' supreme example of humility.

For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain - Philippians 1:21

The spread of the gospel matters more to Paul than his own comfort and honor. This is why he could rejoice in imprisonment and dishonor.

In the midst a culture strongly influenced by secularization, self-indulgence, and the rise of philosophical pluralism, we are often tempted to opt for an "American" Version of the Gospel-one that is more "domesticated." The key theme of Philippians is "Putting the Gospel First."

Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you. John 20:21

Jesus is the revelation of God and by belief in him, our inability to know God is reconciled and we have the assurance that we will dwell with God.

"God seeks witnesses who offer Him their worship with extravagance, with sacrifice, and with pure motives."

Christ showed his power with the resurrection of Lazarus even as he faced his own death with the confidence that the same power of God would raise him from the grave. John 11 is a story designed to encourage us and to give us strength as we face our own mortality or the death of someone near to us.

Witnesses to God’s sovereignty recognized His revealed will and respond in worship and obedience. God in His sovereignty REVEALS Himself to us in various ways. We need to maintain a posture of RECOGNITION, listening for His voice. Once He reveals Himself and we recognize Him, we don’t ignore, we RESPOND.

In John 6:1-15, Jesus moves with compassion and performs a miracle that feeds thousands of people. Not only is the miracle an act of compassion, its also an act of communication, telling us something important about Jesus. In the end, Jesus pinpoints a deeper need than physical hunger. We all have spiritual hunger - an absence in our souls. Jesus alone satisfies our souls. How will we respond?
