For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 5:6

“So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!” So they took his advice... Acts 5:38-39

So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.” 1 Peter 2:1

: In chapter 3 of Acts, we see Peter and John heal a lame beggar at the gates of the temple. Peter wasted no time in proclaiming Jesus Christ as Messiah and Savior when a large crowd gathered after the man entered into the temple walking and praising God.

...and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His great might Ephesians 1:19

While the Gospel of Luke described what Jesus began to do and to teach, the book of Acts describes what Jesus continued to do and to teach through the ministry of the disciples.

As soon as Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, he worshiped. And he returned to the camp of Israel and said, "Arise, for the LORD has given the host of Midian into your hand."

We live in a time when nothing seems secure. Since 9/11, the security we once felt as a nation is gone. True security, however, comes by faith in God’s supernatural provision of Immanuel, which means “God with us.”

"Glory to God in the highest,  and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased! ” Luke 2:14

This is not just a Christmas story! God supernaturally intervenes in human affairs to bring about his plan of salvation. We see God’s sovereign control of all history as He who works out His plan of salvation. We saw in Galatians 4:4 that God had a plan from the beginning: “when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law.” The story of Jesus’ birth fulfilled...

 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen. Galatians 6:18

Authentic freedom is realized through the work of God’s Holy Spirit.

 For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. Galatians 5:1-15

We were born to freedom in Christ not slavery under law and sin. Those who have placed their faith in Jesus are sons of Promise while those who place themselves under the law are sons of slavery.

But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more? Galatians 4:9

We are no longer slaves, but sons of God and His heirs. The Galatians were relapsing into paganism, but in a notable way, because their relapse manifest itself in their desire to subject themselves to the Mosaic Law.

God’s promise to Abraham cannot be undone. All who have received Christ have been made heirs according to God’s promise.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

After standing together with Peter in Jerusalem and establishing the truth that we are saved by faith in Christ – nothing else and nothing more – Paul confronts Peter in Antioch, a Gentile city. Peter, fearing the Judiazers, stopped eating with the Gentile believers. Peter had not changed his convictions! He knew that the laws were only Jewish customs– he was hypocritical.

As we begin a new series we want to emphasize the importance of the gospel. Christ's atoning death and resurrection on the cross is good enough and nothing else is needed.

Key Verse:Nehemiah 13:3 "As soon as the people heard the Law, they separated from Israel all those of foreign descent." Summary: Obedience to God’s Word is holy living and holiness is not negotiable. Our witness to a lost world is linked to our conduct defined by obedience. When we walk in holiness we “adorn the teachings of God our Savior”.
