The most dangerous thing is the tongue. The tongue has the power of life and death. Those who have faith are able to control it; those who don’t are destroyed by it.

Followers of Jesus Christ should respond to God’s Word with obedient listening, careful speech, and a humble demeanor. Or as James 1:19 says, “Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.

Trials and temptations are inevitable! Sometimes, we face trials on the outside, and sometimes we face temptations on the inside! How we understand them and respond to them has everything to do with our faith in God.

For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”? Or again, “I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son”? Hebrews 1:5

David was a great king, but a poor, passive father. We see the tragic relationships David had with his children, and the consequences of David’s weak leadership of his family.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Just as David, for the sake of Jonathan, brought in the undeserving descendants of Saul to his table, so to are we brought in to God's table to feast.

The point is that the ideal characteristic in a wife and mom is the fear of the Lord, which expresses itself in godliness & wisdom. Our culture’s idea is that a woman’s most important attributes are charm & beauty is nothing new. People believed it then, & they believe it now.

Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2

As David pursues the Lord we see that he is blessed and protected by the Lord in the face of opposition. Just as the tactics of Saul couldn't wear him down, so too should we pursue God in the midst of hardship, knowing that God will bless and protect us as he sees fit.

And David said, "The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." And Saul said to David, "Go, and the LORD be with you!"1 Sam 17:37

God had ruled Israel through judges whom He raised up to deliver Israel until the people of Israel asked Samuel for a king. In asking for a king, they rejected God’s rule. We typically look at those who were immediate eyewitnesses to Christ’s resurrection. Today, I want us to look at the unique account of Paul’s eyewitness as he defended himself before King Agrippa. Paul’s defense here makes two main points about the resurrection:

He lived there two whole years at his own expense, and welcomed all who came to him, proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance. Acts 28:30,31

After Paul’s missionary work in Ephesus leads to a great number of people being converted, a local businessman complains that the Christians are diminishing his business and ruining the worship of his god. Through this story we realize that the gospel is a threat to our old way of life devoid of God.
