From Colchester To Sulawesi

Whilst Paula stays at home and works on obtaining further family approval for the project, an honour is bestowed upon Phil, which he is glad to accept.

Phil says goodbye to a faithful companion, and to take his mind off things Paula persuades him to return to Bahowo, to oversee the last stages of building work, and he will not be going alone.

Despite an enjoyable time being spent with Paula’s family around the highlands and islands of Sulawesi, Phil and Paula return to England with some problems, and with no clear idea how to resolve them

Phil and Paula arrive in Bahowo to find that the land which they thought they had bought is not theirs in its’ entirety, which presents them with a particular problem.

Paula is lost for words, some religious matters are dealt with, not necessarily for the better, and Phil and Paula have a spiritual experience.

Some construction problems are resolved, and some are not. Phil and Paula begin to think about aesthetics, and begin to doubt their Indonesian partner.

From all of the uncertainty, a timescale is beginning to emerge, and Paula makes an important and determined decision.

Phil and Paula get down to some practical, legal and administrative matters pertaining to their future lives, and start to think about furniture.

Phil and Paula try to do something sensible, which fails, and Paula goes to America whilst Phil goes back to Indonesia, and is amazed.

Phil and Paula are introduced to their builder, and in ceremonial manner they see to the first physical manifestation of the building in which they one day hope to live.

Despite receiving mixed reaction from family and friends, Phil and Paula are more determined than ever to begin their perhaps insane project, and make their first and all-important financial commitment.

Phil and Paula get to better know the village which they one day hope to make their home, and to better understand how this might be possible.

Seeking land in the mountains of Minahassa, Phil and Paula conclude that something is wrong, and in a moment of understanding they realise they are looking in the wrong place.

Phil and Paula are in Singapore, about to fly home to England. But where is home, really? And could they do a different kind of life?
