Friends 'Till the End

The ninth Saw movie is a weird one for a lot of reasons. It came out in May instead of October. It doesn't have Tobin Bell in it. But above all, it stars and is not-so-secretly written by Chris Rock. That was a mistake, and we'll get into it in our recap!

Fans had to wait seven years for this return of the Saw franchise to theaters, but was this attempted...reboot? Legacy sequel? worth the wait?

We take a little break from the Saw features to discuss the three shorts in the franchise -- the original 2003 short James Wan and Leigh Whannell used to sell the feature, the "Full Disclosure Report" mockumentary from the Saw Uncut DVD, and the Scott Tibbs Documentary from the Saw 2 DVD! Plus, the Saw: Rebirth comic from 2005, which is absolutely not canon!

We finish out an era of Saw this month, with the final annual film in the series, Saw 3D. It's also known as The Final Chapter which it is assuredly not. But it is notable for many reasons, such as the first scene shot outdoors in the entire series, blood that is the wrong color, and being uniquely terrible. Join us for it, won't you?

We're officially halfway through 202Saw and we're at something of a turning point for the "Saw" series with the sixth movie! Consequences begin for Detective Hoffman, or seem to, and the series starts to get topical!

202Saw continues on this month's show with Saw V! The saga of Hoffman continues in this one, and at least one of us is thinking it's starting to feel like a TV show. Also: Wigs!

202Saw continues with the fourth installment in the franchise. It advances some storylines...but only barely pushes the timeline ahead. Instead, we begin the saga of Jill Saw.

202Saw continues as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of this third entry in the Saw series! Things really ramp up in this one, and emotions are high, even if the twists are a little more predictable. Maybe on purpose?

Well, that's a quick turnaround! How'd they get a Saw sequel out so fast? What twists and turns will this new one bring to the fore? And most importantly, is it any good? It's time to play another game as 202Saw continues!

202Saw, our nearly year-long dive into the Saw movie franchise, begins with the first film from 2004 this episode! Do the twists still land? Is the gore too much? Listen and find out! (Also: We say a few times in the episode there are 11 entries in the series, but there are only 10. We know.)

A killer robot Santa is on the loose, and apparently the way to avoid its wrath is to have some really out-there movie opinions. We're watching this low-budget love letter to VHS cinema for our holiday special this year! Hope your holidays are great!

The newest horror-doll franchise dropped the horror and went for an action-comedy vibe with its second entry this year. Does it stick the landing in glide mode, or was Chucky right that "muh-three-gan" was never a contender to his throne?

Presenting: A mistake. The sequel to "The Boy" makes so many strange choices that we needed quite a while to talk about them. Also: The reason "Chucky" was canceled...revealed!

Chucky had some stuff to say about some competing haunted doll movies in a Season 3 episode of his series, so we're watching what he did! This time, it's 2016's "The Boy," which has a big twist on what the doll is all about. But how effective is it, really?

The new Final Destination is available to stream on HBO Max, so we took it for a spin. How does it stack up to the five previous entries, and what year is that flashback supposed to be in, anyway?

As Chucky said, "Didn't even get a franchise." So let's dig into why that happened in 2007's "Dead Silence" with otherwise reliable franchise-creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell.

We're changing streams with this episode and starting a series about the stuff Chucky saw on TV in "Chucky" season 3! We're starting with the TV episode that arguably started it all: "Living Doll" from season 5 of "The Twilight Zone"!

Fourth movie, first Purge. But they're not even calling it The Purge yet. Does this prequel experiment succeed?

Happy Purge Day (belated)! We're celebrating this year's Purge by watching 2016's The Purge: Election Year in which there's a big argument about whether it's better to fight tyranny from within the system or via a full-on armed rebellion. The escapism of entertainment, everyone!

The Purge continues on this month's episode with the second film in the franchise, "The Purge: Anarchy"! Does this one follow through on the promise of the first movie's premise? Does it dive further into the socioeconomic conflict at the heart of the idea? And Frank Grillo is basically The Punisher, right?

Our long journey through The Purge series begins with the first Purge film (not to be confused with The First Purge). How well does this low-budget home invasion flick live up to its lofty high concept? We watch and find out!

The holidays are here, so let's watch the 2015 Krampus movie and decide if it's good or not.

We're closing out our look at the Final Destination series (so far) with this entry that has...a TWIST! We also consider whether this is the final destination for our own show now that Chucky has been cancelled. Where do we go from here? Listen and find out!

We're contiuning our run through the Final Destination series of films with the fourth entry in the franchise, an apparent attempt to inject some new energy into it...in 3D! So does it succeed, or does it crash and burn?

We continue our roller coaster ride through the Final Destination films, and we've reached the first truly post-9/11 entry in the series. How does that change things? If at all?
