Fr. Kubicki 2 Minute Prayer Reflections

Father Kubicki reflects on Saint Matthew’s version of the sermon on the mount where Jesus calls His disciples to be both light and salt. We are called to be humble and bring out the good things of others just as light and salt do.

On this the first Saturday of the month Father reflects on a prayer that Pope Francis wrote called “Mother of Silence.” Let us take some time to rest in the peace of Christ today just as he invited His disciples to do in the readings today.

Today is the feast of Saint Blaise, a bishop and martyr of the fourth century. An old tradition says that Saint Blaise prayed for a child who was choking on a bone and the child was healed. We are called to be instruments of Jesus’ love in this world just as Saint Blaise.

Today is the feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the temple, also known as Candlemas or the Purification of Mary. Even though Mary didn’t need to be purified, she humbled herself just as Jesus humbled himself when he was baptized.  

Tomorrow is known as the World Day of Consecrated Life, instituted by Saint Pope John Paul II in 1997. Father Kubicki reads some words from Pope Benedict about why we have a day celebrating consecrated life. Remember the religious in your prayers.

Today is the feast of Saint John Bosco, man who loved to entertain children with tricks and acrobats in order to draw them closer to God. Saint John Bosco also had the gift of prophetic dreams which he used to further his mission of helping the boys of Italy.

The Gospel for Mass today is about the Gerasene Demoniac who encountered Jesus and was liberated from evil spirits. Much like this man, who beat himself with stones, we often beat ourselves up after we sin. We should not fall into this temptation, but rather rely on Jesus’ mercy.

Father shares some insights about the beatitudes which Jesus talks about in the Gospel. According to Pope Francis the key beatitude is “blessed are the meek.” Meekness is thought of a foolishness by the world, but in its proper understanding it is far from foolishness.

Today is the feast of Saint Thomas Aquinas. Known as one of the greatest theologians of all time, Saint Thomas wrote the Summa Theologica. When God asked what he wanted for writing so well of him Saint Thomas replied, nothing but yourself Lord.

Today is the feast of Saint Angela Merici, a woman who created the first religious order of women dedicated to teaching. Father encourages us to make a morning offering to God each day and shares with us Saint Angela’s morning offering prayer.

Today is the feast of Saints Timothy and Titus, people who worked alongside Paul to share the Gospel. We see from the letters Paul wrote to these saints that the Church had many problems even in its early life. Let us remain grounded in the Church.

Today is the feast of the conversion of Saint Paul as well as the conclusion of the Octave of prayer for Christian unity. Father shares some words from Pope Benedict reflecting on association of Jesus Christ with the Church as being one body.

Today is the feast of Saint Francis De Sales, who was born in France in 1567. Saint Francis became a lawyer than a priest and eventually was made the bishop of Geneva in Switzerland. Father reads words from this saint about dealing with hopelessness. 

Today is a day of prayer for the legal protection of the unborn in the United States. Today is the anniversary of the supreme court decision known as Roe v Wade. Father reads some words from Pope Francis speaking out for the unborn.

Father reminds us of that Jesus’ first words at the start of his ministry is repent. Jesus sometimes uses tough love for with us just as parents do with their children. Father offers a prayer from Saint John Henry Newman that we may be light to others.

Today is the feast of Saint Agnes a martyr of the Church. According to tradition she was martyred at the age of twelve. Her name comes from the Greek word meaning pure and chaste. On her feast day Lambs are brought to be blessed by the pope and then sheered for new vestments for the new archbishops.

Today is the feast of Saint Sebastian a Christian in Milan Italy who was drafted into the military and advanced in rank to become the captain of the guard in Rome. When it was discovered that he was a Christian Saint Sebastian was martyred by arrows.

Father Reflects on some words from a joint commission of the world council of churches and the pontifical council for Christian unity based on this year’s theme from the profit Isaiah. We must continue to work towards unity.
