57 - Forces of... Forty Kay? 01.07.2026

The Warhammer Summer Reveal promises some new minis and rules for you Old World fans (as well as some new potential minis for use in your older editions of Warhammer). Speaking of older editions, White Dwarf 93 reveals what the (then) new game Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader is all about. So for just this once, we'll spend a bit of time reflecting on 40k as well as Fantasy.

56 - Monster Mash '87 22.06.2026

What do Wyverns, Dragons, Minotaurs and Giant Scorpions have in common? They're all featured in White Dwarf 92, alongside such goodies as the Goblin Battle Chariots (yes, plural), Scarloc's Scouts, Wizards, ninja's and Chaos (both the Dwarfs and the Thugs variety). An audio-only look at a miniatures heavy White Dwarf. There'll be an article next time, I promise!

55 - "Watch out! Dwarf snowballs incoming!" 09.06.2026

In this episode, we discuss all the Warhammer goodness in White Dwarf 91 - and it is PACKED with new miniatures (well, they were new at some point), WFRP (although I won't go into that) and an awesome looking 4-player scenario in Dog Peak Pass, Black Fire Pass' lesser known counterpart. And yes, there is a mechanic in this scenario for tossing Dwarf snowballs. And no, these are not snowballs throw...

54 - Orcs and other miniatures - and a chance to win them! 30.05.2026

What's the difference between a Warrior Orc and an Orc Champion? The champions have awesome monikers, of course. And better stats, but that's not as important. Either way, White Dwarf 89 is packed with new miniatures and a chance to win them. But you have to be quick, because the deadline is August... 1987. We're still hot on the tails of the Ravening Hordes release, so there's plenty of that too...

53 - Crooked Conkerers 25.05.2026

That was a long wait, but I've finally crawled my way through my obligations towards the microphone again to continue our journey through 2nd edition Warhammer Fantasy with this coverage of White Dwarf 88, featuring the awesome looking Snotling Pump Wagon and a specialized Goblin army, the Broken Nose Tribe.

52 - "They're winning, let's fight for them!" 21.06.2025

The good thing about Ravening Hordes is that it gives you access to allies (which are an army within your army) and mercenaries. The good thing about mercenaries is that they can supplement your army. The BAD thing about mercenaries is that they can at some point choose to supplement your opponent's army! Take a trip back in time, away from all the Cathay news and releases, to the final section of...

51 - Exploding Samurai 07.06.2025

After a lengthy period of no podcasts, the Forces of Fantasy Podcast is back with another discussion of Ravening Hordes armies. In this episode: Chaos (men, dwarfs and beasts), Nippon and Norse. One of these has been split in three and the other two are just mentioned in the lore presently, if that. Ah, those were the days, when you could make Vikings battle exploding samurai...   All the news art...

50 - Anniversary episode hobby dads chat 02.06.2025

Most of us are at an age where we have kids. How do we involve them in the hobby? Callum, Dave and Karl share their thoughts and insights in this 50th episode and 2 year anniversary special of the Forces of Fantasy Podcast. Want to get in touch? Here's a bunch of links. www.forcesoffantasy.com https://forcesoffantasy.podbean.com/ E: forcesoffantasy [at] gmail [dot] com Subscribe to the YouTube cha...

49 - Bones, witches and rats 11.04.2025

What do Undead, Dark Elves and Skaven have in common? They're the next three army lists we're looking at in the Ravening Hordes book for 2nd edition. Each army brings its own unique fighting style to the table, but you're also limited by some serious minimum model counts. And by missing rules, but hey, that's Oldhammer (or Warhammer in general) for you.   All the news articles are taken from www.w...

48 - Ravening Orcs 31.03.2025

Just one army list today? Yes, but there's a reason for that, as you will hear on the podcast. Or an excuse. Either way, it's just one, but an important one: Orcs and Goblins. They are very much the same as in later editions, yet also oddly different. See for yourself... 47 - New rules rule 26.03.2025

It's inevitable that an expansion booklet that gives you new army lists also gives you some new rules. In this episode, we take a look at the additions and changes to Warhammer 2nd edition that were needed to use the Ravening Hordes book. Anything from terrain setup to deployment to magic items to manoeuvres and formations to characters and challenges to rout, rallying and pursuit to... no, wait,...

46 - The Hordes are Ravening 08.03.2025

Let's take our first look at the Ravening Hordes book for 2nd edition WHFB. This book gives us new rules, and, more importantly, new army lists. But before we get to that, we first have to see we survive... the introduction.   All the news articles are taken from www.warhammer-community.com   Want to get in touch? Here's a bunch of links. www.forcesoffantasy.com https://forcesoffantasy.podbean.com...

45 - Interview: Christian themes in Warhammer 24.02.2025

Apart from some High Elf (and other) news, the main topic of this show is an interview I did with Gregory from the UK. Together, we're going to explore the Christian themes in Warhammer lore. Yes, that's a thing. All the news articles are taken from www.warhammer-community.com   Want to get in touch? 44 - Staying in the here and now 04.02.2025

No time machine this week, but plenty of fun stuff to cover in the ways of new reveals and releases. Here's the articles discussed in case you want to check for yourself: https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/yu1duwle/lvo-preview-2025-the-barrow-kingdoms-rise-to-serve-the-soulblight-gravelords/ https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/q4oh518o/lvo-preview-2025-the-resplenden...

43 - Goblin strategy 15.01.2025

It's taken four episodes, but today we finally can close the book, er, magazine, on the Citadel Journal Spring 1987. It's given us lots of cool rules, new models and even a few promises! And of course some strategy tips, one of which even works every time! At least, as long as your opponent is an Elf. Dig in! Here's the stuff mentioned in the news section: Warhammer Underworlds Night Goblins: http...

42 - Dragon-Bolt (no Z) 07.01.2025

Happy new year! Do you see those fireworks? They seem to be getting awfully close, though... And they also seem more like dragon-bolts (yes, that's a real type of dragons' breath weapon) than fireworks, come to think of it. Better check if I'm allowed to make a save... This episode covers the next section of the Citadel Journal Spring 1987, which is mostly dragons. But there's also a daemon. A shi...

41 - Silent Knight, Green Knight 22.12.2024

Merry Christmas everyone! For this special episode we're going to do something completely different. I invite you to come and sit by the campfire and listen to the complete, unabridged tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Because if Die Hard is a Christmas movie (of course it is!) then this is a Christmas story, and even more so.   Want to get in touch? Here's a bunch of links. www.forcesoffan...

40 - Goin' Stunty 19.12.2024

We're picking up where we left off with the Citadel Journal Spring 1987. This episode, we're taking a look at two war machines: the (in)famous Man Mangler and the Elven equivalent of the A-team in their attack chariot. Also, there's skeletons. Lots of skeletons. And they're plastic. An anonymous author who may or may not be Rick Priestly (quite possibly not) explains why the plastic skeleton kit i...

39 - Of Balrogs and undead mercenaries (Citadel Journal Spring 87 part 1) 07.12.2024

Just like GW makes you wait a long time after certain announcements, so too does this podcast. But it's all the sweeter when they finally get released! So too (hopefully) with this episode, in which we look back at some (announcements of) new releases and (announcements of) old releases, in the first look at the Citadel Journal Spring 1987. So get set, for this is going to be a multi-part episode....

38 - You look... familiar 05.11.2024

The forces of Chaos unleash their worst! Tremble before such names as Demonnet, Mite and Homonculus! And they Chaos Sorcerers these familiars accompany are pretty decent too. But it's mostly the familiars that steal the glory. Oh, and there's also some new miniatures that may or may not be of use in your armies. But hey, look at the cool old stuff!   Want to get in touch? Here's a bunch of links....

37 - Halloween special 29.10.2024

Spooky season is upon us! But why do we (well, you, probably) celebrate Halloween? Let's dive into some real-world origins of this haunted holiday. And let's also not forget to explore some terrifying tales from the Undead and Vampire Counts army books.   Want to get in touch? Here's a bunch of links. www.forcesoffantasy.com https://forcesoffantasy.podbean.com/ E: forcesoffantasy [at] gmail [dot]...

36 - The Slaughterer and the Tin Man 19.09.2024

What if you don’t want to play regular Warhammer? Then there’s the Warhammer Fantasy Role Playing game! And what if you don’t want that either? Don’t worry, White Dwarf 83 has got you covered with a special mini game. And if you don’t want to play THAT either? Well, then I’m sorry it took you 36 episodes to realize, but then this might just not be the podcast for you. But for all the rest of you,...

35 - Hello, sailor! 11.09.2024

Warhammer takes to the seas in this White Dwarf 82 article with "simple" (and notoriously incomplete) rules for sailing ships. Get some cardboard and balsa wood to build ships, bang them together until they sink and hope there's room for you too on that door.   In sadder news, we learn that beloved White Dwarf editor Paul Sawyer has fallen terminally ill. His family have set up a GoFundMe to make...

34 - Ninja vs Chaos Warriors 03.09.2024

There's a lot to unpack in White Dwarf 81, which is exactly what we're going to do in this episode. Well, after grumpy old GJ ranting on about new miniatures and how the pacing of GW is too fast and how franchises used to be better in the past, that is. #warhammer #warhammertheoldworld #gamesworkshop #warhammerfantasy #oldhammer   !! 33 - Black-masked Dwarfs with respirators 26.08.2024

What do you do when you learn about the existence of your evil kin? You gather all troops you can find and march to war! That is exactly what king Ulfar Stonehammer does when he learns about the existence of Chaos Dwarfs. But is leaving home at a time like this such a good idea? Before you know it, your hold gets retroactively taken over by Goblins! In this episode we delve into White Dwarf 80 and...
