Exodus 12:1–28, the people prepare for the 10th plague, and are taught how to observe this event from now on. The language surrounding the Passover, and the language surrounding Jesus, his death, and the Lord supper is pervasive and profound! Exodus 10:21–11: 10, the ninth plague, the plague of darkness, a plague of fear. And the 10th plague is announced and threatened to Pharaoh, but his heart is hardened, and he still doesn’t let the people go. Hebrews 4:1–16, The Sabbath rest before us, and the word of God that will take us there.

Exodus 9:29–10:20, the eighth plague, the plague of locusts, pharaoh’s ridiculous “negotiation“ with God, and his unworthy “repentance“. Hebrews 3:1–19, Jesus, who is greater than the angels, is greater also than Moses. Furthermore, we have been saved from slavery to sin and death, but if we expect to enter into eternal rest, we must continue with our Lord.

Exodus 9:1–28, with plagues number five, six, and seven, the Lord continues to ratchet up the pressure on Pharaoh. Hebrew 2:1–18, Jesus is ever so much greater than the angels, yet, for a little while, he was made lower than them, to become the savior of human beings.

Exodus 8:1–32, plagues number 3, 4 and 5, increase the pressure on pharaoh. Hebrew one: 1–14, the son of God takes on human flesh, and lowers himself beneath the angels to make purification for our sins, and then to be exalted far above them!

Exodus 7:1–25, a Preliminary sign given to Pharaoh, and the first plague, the striking of the Nile, the heart of Egypt. Mark 16:1–20, the resurrection according to Mark, the shorter version, and the longer version.

Exodus 5:1–6:1, Moses and Aaron make demand of Pharaoh, and things go worse than the expected, and the people turn on Moses! Mark 15:33–47, from noon to 3 PM that first Good Friday, Jesus languishes on the cross, until he dies. So he is on the cross for a total of six hours. The body is hastily removed from the cross, and placed in a tomb, because the sabbath is about to begin. On the sabbath day,...

Exodus 14:19–31, Moses and Aaron make their way to Egypt, and a very strange episode occurs on the way! Mark 15:16–32, we are introduced to Simon of Cyrene, who bore the cross for Jesus. Jesus is crucified at 9 AM, the description of which is given here with little if any theological comment.

Exodus 4:1–18, following the high drama of Exodus chapter 3, God‘s call to Moses to bring the people of Israel out of Egypt, we have chapter 4: please, Lord, I don’t wanna go! Mark 15:1–15, a brief account of Jesus’ trial before Pontius Pilate. Also, a comment About the references to Pilate in the apostles and the Nicene creeds.

Exodus 2:23–3: 22, God‘s plan moves into high gear God reveals himself to Moses at the burning bush, and identifies who he is, giving Moses His personal name, and outlining His plan for His people. Mark 14:53–72, Jesus’ trial before the Jewish council, how out of his own mouth he is condemned, and the contrast with Peter, who with his mouth denies Jesus three times.

Exodus 2:1–22, Divine Providence at work again, Moses survives the effort to kill the Hebrew boys, and ends up being raised in the Egyptian court! Then, he finds a happy home in the wilderness at Sinai. All in preparation for what God is going to have him do. Mark 14:32–52, Jesus, in the hour of decision and temptation, and the disciples too. Quite the contrast!

Exodus one: 1–22, the time lapse between the happy times of Joseph and the harsh times of Moses are bridged here in Exodus chapter 1. Nearly 4centuries are summarized. Mark 14:12–31, the beginning of the holy “three days“ – also known as the “triduum”, that is, sundown Thursday night to sundown Sunday night of holy week.

Genesis 49:29–50:7, 14–26, with the death of Jacob, and the death of Joseph, the patriarchal era comes to an end. Mark 14:1–11, the wheels begin to turn that will result in Jesus crucifixion, a thing he has been predicting.

Genesis 47:1–31, Israel multiplies in possessions and numbers, and Pharaoh gets rich, and the Egyptians live, all because of the blessing of the Lord through Joseph. Mark 13:24–37, from a discussion of the end times, Jesus turns his attention to the very last day.

Genesis 45:1–20, 24–28, Joseph finally breaks down and reveals who he is to his brothers, to their great consternation and stunned disbelief! Mark 13:1–23, Jesus predicts the destruction of the temple, and warns the disciples about the dangers of the end times.

Genesis 44:1–18, 32–34, the stage being set, Joseph Springs a trap on his brothers, to test them to the limit. Would they do with Benjamin what they once upon a time did with him? Mark 12:28–44, Good scribe, bad scribe, and a beautiful sermon preached by a widow.

Genesis 43:1–28, Jacob finally relents and lets his sons go back to Egypt, together with Benjamin. There, the brothers, anxiety grows, and a dream. Dreamed, long ago, finds its fulfillment. Mark 12:13–27, the tension continues to rise, as Jesus enemies try to trip him up in his words.

Genesis 42:1–34, 38, Ten of the sons of Jacob go to Egypt to get food, and unbeknownst to them, are greeted harshly by their brother Joseph, who will test them sorely. Mark 12:1–12, Jesus tells an extraordinary parable, the parable of the tenants.

Genesis 41:28–57, Joseph rises to the top again, forshadowing Israel’s blessing under the hand of God in future times. Mark 11:20–33, Jesus, in the state of his humiliation on earth, lived by faith in his heavenly father, Calling upon him in prayer to accomplish all things.

Genesis 41:1–27, the providence of God, the dreams of pharaoh, and Joseph. Mark 11:1–19, we begin the Highpoint of Jesus’ ministry, eight days in his life, and in the life of Israel, and in the history of the world, eight days, beginning with Palm Sunday, and ending on the day of Resurrection!

Genesis 40:1–23, Joseph, in prison, interprets the dreams of fellow prisoners. Mark 10:32–52, how could the disciples not understand what Jesus was saying? But Jesus is clear about this, why he is about to die.

Genesis 39:1–23, Joseph in Egypt as Potiphar’s slave, just one of several examples of Joseph’s rise and fall in Egypt. Mark 10:13–31, two tales here, one of those who cannot come on their own to Jesus but must be brought, and one of those who could’ve come, but chose not to.

Genesis 37:1–36, our attention turns from Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to the next generation: Joseph and his brothers., Genesis is going to tell us how the offspring of Israel ended up in Egypt. Mark 10:1–12, Jesus’ teaching on marriage is as simple to understand as it is difficult to do.

Genesis 35:1–29, actually we’re going to be looking at chapters 30 through 35, focusing, especially on Jacob wrestling with God in the night. Mark 9:33–50, let’s face it, the disciples had been exhibiting a bad attitude! Jesus works to set them right.

Genesis 29:1–30, Jacob, the deceiver, meets his match with Laban, his uncle, another deceiver! He gets two wives and two servants out of the deal, but he has to serve Laban for 14 years – twice as long as he originally negotiated! Mark 9:14–32, Jesus’ disciples try to cast out a demon on their own and fail. Jesus is frustrated with the unbelief of his disciples, and for that matter, of the world.
