Leviticus 9:1–24, we are walked through the very first worship service in the newly erected tabernacle by the newly consecrated high priest, Aaron. Luke 9:18–36, Peter’s confession that Jesus is the Christ, followed by some implications of that, followed by a vision of the glory of the kingdom.

Leviticus 8:1–13, 30–36, the Tabernacle having been erected, the sacrifices that will be performed in them defined, now the priests who will perform these sacrifices are cleansed and sanctified for the work. Luke 9:1–17, Jesus expands his work, and begins to preach, cure, cast out demons and feed people through his disciples.

Exodus 40:17–38, the pillar of fire and the pillar of cloud come to rest on the newly erected tabernacle, a sure sign that God is dwelling with his people. Luke 8:40–56, two stories, intertwined, about how faith makes people whole.

Exodus 39:32–40:16, all the parts and pieces of the tabernacle now having been constructed exactly as the people of God were commanded, everything is ready to be assembled and consecrated for service to the Lord. Luke 8:22–39, Jesus comes into a sinful and unclean world, and rescues those sunk in it, putting him in their right mind, and setting them at his feet.

Exodus 38:21–3 9:8, 22–23, 27–31, now admit it: you were wondering why is this even here! Luke 8:1–21, Jesus preaches the good news of the kingdom of God, and that word is building a very tangible church, a church filled with very real people, whose very real lives are being being transformed by the seed planted in their hearts. At least, that’s how it should be!

Exodus 34:29–3 5:21, the shining face of Moses underscores the holiness of God‘s presence and God‘s word. Also, with the call for materials and labor to build the tabernacle, the people’s former apostasy is finally put behind them! Luke 7:36–50, Jesus tells a parable relating the relationship between our sinfulness, God’s forgiveness, and our ability to love him.

Exodus 34:1–28, the covenant which the people broke by worshiping the golden calf, is now renewed by a merciful and forgiving God. Luke 7:18–35, what the faithful in Israel make of the kingdom of God. It perplexes them. But Jesus declares them blessed who are not offended by him!

Exodus 33:1–23, the potential consequences of what Israel did with respect to the golden calf are fully revealed in a “disastrous word“ from the Lord. Luke 7:1–17, Jesus deals compassionately with two “unclean“ persons, a gentile centurion, and a dead man.

Exodus 32:15–35, the judgment of God’s people for the golden calf incident begins, and the Lord’s initial response is surprisingly restrained! Luke 6:39–49, Jesus explores the important connection between what we believe and what we do.

Exodus 32:1–14, the first great crisis between the Lord and his people: the people make a golden calf, and try to worship God in the form of a carved image! Luke 6: 20–38, we look at the preaching style of Jesus, and how the things he said at various times were the same, and yet different.

Exodus 31:1–18, the special gifts of the Holy Spirit to design, and construct the holy temple and its furnishings, and the special role of the Sabbath day in teaching the people that the Lord is the one who sanctifies them. Luke 6:1–19, two stories relating to the Sabbath day, and the tension and difference between “not working“, on the one hand, and “sanctifying the day” on the other.

Exodus 25:1–22, we are introduced to the sanctuary, the ark of the covenant, and the mercy seat, which is perhaps better called the atonement cover. Luke 5:17–39, before demonstrating his authority to forgive sins, Jesus assembles an audience thick with the religious leaders from Galilee, Judea and Jerusalem.

Exodus 24:1–18, the tablets of stone, the book of the covenant, the ratification of the covenant, and the revelation of God‘s will through Moses. Luke 5:1–16, Jesus, the crowd, a boat, a catch of fish, snd the call to follow Jesus!

Exodus 23:14–33, the unfolding of God‘s law continues, with a focus on life, in the promised land. First, on the required feasts to be observed there – there are three of them – and secondly, the requirement that Israel drive out the Canaanites and not make peace with them. Exodus 22: 20–23:13, various moral principles are laid down for the people, explaining further the meaning and the application of the 10 Commandments. Luke 4:16–30, Jesus’ reception in Nazareth is a paradigm for his reception by all of Israel, and indeed, by all the world.

Exodus 20:1–24, the 10 “words“, or “Commandments“. What are the underlying principles here? Luke 4:1–15, we return to Jesus’ earthly life and ministry, now as recounted for us by Saint Luke. We begin with Jesus temptation in the wilderness.

Exodus 19:1–25, the fearful and wonderful and dramatic scene at the foot of Mount Sinai as the people hear the very voice of God. Hebrews 13:1–21, the writer to the Hebrews finishes his letter, encouraging Christians to follow their spiritual leaders and to love one another as Jesus commanded.

Exodus 18:5–27, Jethro, Moses‘s father-in-law, offers Moses some excellent advice on how to share the burden of ministry among the people of Israel. Hebrews 12:1–24, suffering, witness, faithfulness, and discipline are all related. Also, mount Zion, and Mount Sinai, are compared.

Exodus 17:1–16, the people grumble at Moses, and Moses intercedes for them. The people fight a battle, and Moses, through the lifting of his hands, intercedes for the people in battle. Hebrews 11:1–29, Faith means believing the assurances and promises of God. Those who do so, are always commended!

Exodus 16:13–35, in more ways that can be numbered, God took care of his people in the wilderness for all 40 years that they were there, even though they tested his patience. Hebrews 10:19–39, a whole section devoted to why we ought to come into worship regularly, and what kind of hearts we ought to bring with us!

Exodus 15:19–16:12, the quail, the manna, and the water – learning to live with God as his people in the wilderness. Hebrews 10:1–18, the old testament roots of our new testament faith.

Exodus 15:1–18, the song of Moses: I will sing unto the Lord, for he is triumphed gloriously! Hebrews 91–28, the patterns, copies, models, examples, foreshadowings, of the old covenant, all point to the realities of heaven, and of the age to come, and it is these realities that Jesus has dealt with.

Exodus 14:10–31, from death to new life: the crossing of the Red Sea, and the resurrection, compared. Hebrews 7:23–8:13, shadows, copies, and the real thing: the Old Testament priesthood and the New Testament ministry of Jesus, compared.

Exodus 13:17–14:9, the Lord lures pharaoh and the Egyptians to pursue God’s people. We won’t see a move that stupid again until the devil puts Jesus on the cross! Hebrews 7:1–22, who is Melchizedek? What does he have to do with Jesus, and what does he teach us about Jesus’ high priesthood?

Exodus 12:29–32; 13: 1 – 16, the 10th plague strikes, and the first born of the Egyptians die. The Israelite firstborn, having been saved by the grace of God, now belong to God.
