Jeremiah 3:6–4:2, an initial sampling of Jeremiah’s powerful and provocative preaching, calling Israel and Judah to repentance. Matthew 22:1–22, the parable of the wedding feast: the good, the bad, and the under dressed!

Jeremiah 1:1–19, Jeremiah’s ministry is introduced and briefly described. He will preach for over 40 years, during a period of terrible judgment on God’s people. Matthew 21:23–46, two parables, featuring a vineyard, and those who do, or do not, produce its fruit, and what this has to do with Jesus coming to Jerusalem.

Deuteronomy, 34:1–12, the last chapter of Deuteronomy, wherein Moses looks out over the promised land, then dies, and is buried by the Lord himself. Moses, Stan’s head and shoulders above every other prophet of Israel. Matthew 21:1–22, Jesus entered into Jerusalem like a king, is receive like a king, and cleanses the temple, all in preparation for his atoning death, that will cleanse the world.

Deuteronomy 32:28–52, the second half of Moses’ song, where we see the larger plan of God, to use the faithless nations to punish faithless Israel, and then to punish the faithless nations for their faithlessness and cruelty! Deuteronomy 30:30–32:27, the first half of the song of Moses, which describes in broad strokes, how the relationship between Israel and the Lord would actually go after Moses’ death. Matthew 20:1–16, Jesus tells the parable of the laborers in the Vineyard, and we will explore various ways in which the kingdom of God can be said to be like this.

Better learn to live without it in this world!

Deuteronomy, 31:1–29, Moses is about to die, and the focus turns to the future of God’s people. Matthew 19:16–30, a rich young man wants to know what to do in order to have eternal life, and Jesus tells him: “Follow me!”

Deuteronomy 30:1–20, God demands perfection, but doesn’t expect it. We should be less ashamed of failing to be perfect, than failing to do as well as we really could have done. Matthew 19:1–15, divorce, remarriage, lifelong, celibacy – because of our heart hearts we make a mess of even this great blessing of God called marriage.

Deuteronomy 29:1–29, the final re-ratification of the covenant between God and his people. Matthew 18:21–35, a parable illustrating not how much we should forgive, but why we should forgive at all.

Deuteronomy 28:1–22, the ancient near eastern covenant treaty form, and its relationship to the book of Deuteronomy. Matthew 18:1–20, we are forgiven, on account of Christ, and yet we still sin! Managing the destructive power of sin among the people of God is what this chapter is all about.

Deuteronomy 27:1–26, certain ceremonies and pageantry associated with the Israelites first entering into the promised land, focusing on the blessings and curses for obedience or disobedience to the word of God. Matthew 17:14–27, the disciples failed to cast out a demon, and Jesus explains why.

Deuteronomy 20:1–20, commands relating to Israel going to war. Matthew 15:21 - 39, loaves of bread, and the scraps left over.

Deuteronomy 25:17–26:19, in celebration of God‘s faithfulness to all of his promises, the Israelites are commanded to bring their first fruits before him yearly and confess that all of this is from the hand of their gracious God. Matthew 17:1–13, in the transfiguration of our Lord, Jesus demonstrates the unity of all that God had done through Israel in the old covenant, and now is doing through hi...

Deuteronomy 24:10–25:10, Miscellaneous laws dealing with respect for the poor and the equal application of justice. Matthew 16:13–28, we reach the climax of the gospel of Matthew, Peter’s confession that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God, and from this point onward, our attention will be turned to the cross and resurrection.

Deuteronomy, 21:1–23, an exploration of the corporate nature of covenant keeping and covenant breaking. Matthew 16:1–12, the Pharisees are not all wrong, but they’re not all right either. So, beware the leaven of their teaching, because a little leaven leavens the whole lump!

Deuteronomy 19:1–20, cities of refuge, and laws concerning witnesses – judicial safeguards for the innocent, who are accused of a crime. Matthew 15:1–20, traditions verse the word of God. And two different kinds of defilement.

Deuteronomy 18:1–22, abominable ways to seek spiritual knowledge, and the way God has provided for us to know him. Matthew 14:22–36, Jesus, the very son of God in the flesh, trusted in his father, and prayed to him, and relied upon him, just as we, Jesus’ own disciples, are to do.

Deuteronomy 17:1–20, how idolatry was to be prosecuted, how judging was to be done, and how even the king himself, wax to be under the law of God. Matthew 14:1–21, John’s death shows the danger to Jesus is growing, and Jesus, hearing of John death, withdraws from the public view. And yet he continues to have compassion on the people who seek him out and heal them in great numbers.

Deuteronomy 15:19–16: 22, Moses continues working through various commandments and issues that will be especially relevant once the Israelites get into the promised land, and the Lord chooses the central place of worship. Matthew 13:44–58, Jesus concludes the day of parables with three more parables about the nature of the kingdom of God: the net, the pearl of great price, and the hidden treasure.

Deuteronomy 14:1–2, 22–23; 14:28–15:15, will there be poor in the holy land? Answer: yes, and no! Matthew 13:24–43, the people were expecting the kingdom of God, but they weren’t expecting it to come in the form in which Jesus is bringing it. Thus, the parable of the weeds.

Deuteronomy 13:1–18, The Lord, may we’ll test you with a false prophet, a false prophet, who works wonders and miracles, and sounds ever so wise, but if God does that, he’s already given you the answer to the test! Matthew 13:1–23, he who has ears to hear, let him hear.

Deuteronomy 12:13–32, a little bit about eating animals, those that are offered in sacrifice, and those that are not. A very brief introduction to the idea of kosher food. Matthew 12:38–50, a wicked and adulterous generation demands a sign from God, yet God graciously gives to every generation many signs – especially the sign of the resurrection of Jesus.

Deuteronomy 11:26–12:12, the blessing of obedience – that is, clinging to God, and the curse of disobedience – that is, running after other gods. Also, the idolatry of worshiping the true God, using the methods of the idolatrous pagans. Deuteronomy 9:23–10:22, what does the Lord our God require of us, other than our whole selves?! Matthew 11: 20–30, once unrepentant, or not, once wise, or not, Jesus calls you. He will give you rest.
