Residents and community leaders on Buffalo's East Side have mixed emotions about the store's reopening. The neighborhood is considered a "food desert," with no other grocery stores close by, but residents understandably feel discomfort about shopping in the store again.

An organization in Central New York is getting a funding boost to help workers who are still struggling with the financial effects of the pandemic. The Workers' Center of Central New York says it will use a new grant from the HEAL Food Alliance to help with some of the unexpected expenses its members can't cover, due to rising costs and transportation issues.

The money was allocated by the City Council from American Rescue Plan Act funds received by the city.  The application form is here.

Despite fears when it was passed in 2007 that the tax might hamper tourism, the Yates County Administrator says several new hotels have been built in Penn Yan and the industry has continued to grow. The County Legislature holds a public hearing July 11 to consider extending the tax.

Auburn City Clerk Chuck Mason says the pool is operated by the Auburn YMCA-WEIU under an annual agreement with the city. He says the pool would probably not operate were it not for the YMCA. He says the organization has experience running aquatic programs.
