The City Council has accepted a $40,000 grant from the Skatepark Project, the non-profit foundation established by skater Tony Hawk. The city plans to replace the outdated skatepark at Casey Park with a new one.

Twenty-one counties in New York are under a drought watch , which could become the norm as climate change heats up the planet. According to the  New York State Department of Environmental Conservation , a drought watch is the least severe on the drought monitoring scale. For now, public water suppliers start conserving water and urge people to reduce their water use.

A system of earthen berms allows water to be moved to where it's most needed. The levels are carefully regulated to provide the best balance between plants for bird species to feed on and wetland areas for waterfowl.

The event is hosted at the Equal Rights Heritage Center in downtown Auburn Tuesday night. It features music, food trucks, vendors, kids' activities, and more.

The project makes funds available through the state Energy Improvement Corporation for businesses to undertake energy efficiency improvements. Mason says the first step in making the funds available to local businesses is to put a local law on the books opting into the program.

The county plans to apply for state Consolidated Funding money for improvements at Emerson Park in Owasco, Frontenac Park in Union Springs and at the Sterling Nature Center. The county is looking to raise an additional $250,000 in order to make the application for Emerson Park.

She says the program has advanced from getting locally-grown foods into Seneca County schools into a more education-based program.

The state Department of Ag and Markets has renewed the program grant. Tidball outlines the history of the program to get locally-grown foods into Seneca County schools, even before the Farm to School program officially began.

It will be held Wednesday night from 5-7 p.m. at Floral Hall, with tastings of local foods from the Farm to School and SNAP ED programs, as well as local grape juice and wine tastings.

He says the plan will complement the work of the Owasco Watershed Lake Association and the Cayuga County 9 Element plan in a combined effort to protect the water quality of Owasco Lake.

The town hired an engineering firm, that confirmed the state's findings. There's no problem at the moment, but the town will keep an eye on the little-used bridge.

The plan includes upgrades to county buildings, improvements to the Penn Yan Airport runway and new vehicle purchases.

The toolkit will provide a blueprint for the best methods of keeping runoff from entering Seneca Lake. The idea was suggested by Seneca Lake Watershed Steward Ian Smith.
