In Vermont, a lawsuit alleges that the state deemed a mother unfit even before her baby was born and obtained custody of an unborn fetus. The new surveillance state may arise out of pregnancy.

Filing complaints against workers, discrimination, state claims, are all an important part of defending parents and families in the child welfare system.

Family Forward Project has worked for years to help change federal law related to child welfare. Our efforts helped to pass the Family First Preservation and Services Act, now known as Family First, in Feb 2018. Advocates and parents need to understand the court process before it begins. This training is about preparing witnesses. What are the different types of witnesses? What are objections? Why is the response "I don't recall" so dangerous. How can witnesses refresh their recollection of events.
