True joy comes from the Lord!

James had talked about trials and what it means to have the Joy of the Lord even when we have to walk through them. James is going to follow up and say that when you are in a trial there will be a good chance that you will be tempted to act on your own, which can lead to sinful behavior if we are not careful. James says, own it, work on it, and live out a life as the first fruits of God's creation...

Right off the bat with his letter James is very clear that we will experience trials in our lives. Big trials, little trials, trials that we feel we have no hope to make it through. James says there is hope and it comes through Jesus Christ. Not only is there hope James tells us that we can experience joy even in the midst of the worst trial, because we know where we stand with God. 

James was one of Jesus' little brothers. Can you imagine growing up in the house with Jesus as your big brother. "Why can't you be more like Jesus?" or "Jesus manages to keep his room clean." As Jesus began his ministry it looks like James felt a lot of pressure on his family. So what turned this skeptic of Jesus into a Jesus follower?
