The Holy Spirit enables us to proclaim this message of first importance with power (1 Corinthians 2:1-5). In the same way, receiving this message is made possible by the power of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 1:18).

Christ's resurrection is of first importance. Christ being buried, raised and appearing to many witnesses (1 Corinthians 15:4-8) prove Jesus' claims and validate our faith in Him (v. 14). Christ's resurrection upholds all reasons to believe and hope that when we die with Him, we will also live with Him (Romans 6:8).

Christ's death on the cross is of first importance (1 Corinthians 15:3). He was afflicted, pierces for our transgressions, and crushed for our iniquities. Through his death, the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all (Isaiah 53:1-10). Christ had to die. Scriptures attest that His death was instrumental in bringing the unjust to God (1 Peter 3:18).

The church is on a mission. In order for every tribe and every nation to call on the name of the Lord Jesus, we must be willing to do whatever it takes to bring the Gospel to them, for as long as it takes, until it takes, and then we keep going.

The Lord sets free the prisoners and those who are doomed to die. As such, the closing of history will see all nations worshiping God.

The greatest need of all peoples and cultures is hope that we have in the God of our salvation. It is the gospel that reveals this hope.

Jesus calming the storm exposes the human heart's predisposition to fear and be anxious in events that are beyond our control. Storms in the sea are normal events in a fisherman's life. This miracle points to Jesus' heart and compassion or those who are afflicted. More than the physical healing that Jesus provided for the leper, He touched him and responded to him with compassion. He restored the leper's social status by healing him and commanding him to declare himself healed among the priests as a custom for healed lepers.

In some of Jesus' miracles, He does it to show His divinity and purpose of being the Messiah. In this account, Luke was intentional in highlighting that compassion to bring comfort was Jesus' prime motivation for the miracle. Jesus expressed His compassion and desire to comfort the widow by raising the son from the dead.

Jesus demonstrates His omniscience and lordship over the sea; defying the natural laws of the sea and instantaneously providing a large number of fish for their catch. The glory of God will be fully displayed when he raises from the dead all who have trusted in Jesus. This great hope comforts the souls of all who wait on God to fulfill his promises.

God performs miracles in order to display his works which reveal his character, nature, and purpose. He does not perform them on the basis of the worthiness of the recipient, since none are ultimately worthy.

Jesus is sovereign and performs miracles to bring his disciples through the chaos of the current corrupted creation in order that they might fulfill his mission and eventually inherit the new creation (v. 21).

Ephesians 5:1-2, 18-21

God's miraculous salvation through Jesus is sufficient to satisfy the needs of all who hunger for God and righteousness, even as his miracle of multiplied fish and bread satisfied the hungry multitude (v. 11).

God sometimes performs miracles to deliver people from the consequences of their sins (v. 14). In essence, this is what God has done in raising Jesus from the dead.

God's miracles are important for spreading the gospel, since some people will not believe in Jesus unless they see signs and wonders (v. 48).

The ultimate purpose of God's miracles among us is to reveal the glory of the Son of God (v. 11), yet a concomitant secondary purpose is to bless people.
