Introverts in Medicine 19.03.2024 19:18
Send us Fan Mail In this episode of the Ending Physician Overwhelm podcast, I want to talk about the experience of being an introvert in medicine. I'll start off by saying that I personally identify as an introvert. Not in the sense that I don't like to be around other people, but rather in the sense that I draw a lot of my energy from having time to myself. I'm sure many of you can...

Some of us work for a big system, some of us in smaller clinics, and some of us are running the clinics ourselves. Are You a Good Physician? 20.02.2024 27:46
Send us Fan Mail Do you think you're a good physician? This is a tough question for many physicians to answer, because the truth is that in our US medical system, there are so many metrics, opinions, and perspectives that feed into our own self-worth. But let me reassure you that the odds are in your favor that you are indeed a good physician. And internalizing your gift of competence and c...
Burnout, Motherhood, and Setting the New Precedent with Dr. La Toya Luces-Sampson 13.02.2024 33:49
Send us Fan Mail Being a physician is tough on its own. Now add motherhood on top of that and you've got a recipe for stress and burnout in one way or another. And if you boil it all down, it stems from prescribed expectations of others for the various roles we play. As physicians, it's drilled into us throughout training to be altruistic and prioritize the care of our patients above car...

Send us Fan Mail When you encounter disappointment, whether that's at work or at home, how is it that you currently cope with that feeling? In this episode of the Ending Physician Overwhelm podcast, I invite you to take this...
Negotiating Like a Boss with Special Guest, Dr. Weili Gray 30.01.2024 46:40
Send us Fan Mail What would you say if I told you that you're just a couple of "No's" away from getting the "Yes" that you want? With this in mind, most of us would likely persist when it comes to asking for what we want/need, right? It's all a part of the art of negotiation, and my guest today, Dr. Weili Gray, is an expert in finding the path to the "Yes!&q...

Learning to Prioritize Yourself with Dr. Sapna Shah-Haque 16.01.2024 31:02
Send us Fan Mail What would you do if you were constantly getting bombarded by calls from the hospital, asking you to come in to work, even when you were thousands of miles away on vacation with your family? And how would you react if when you went to discuss this clear lack of boundaries and proper systems, your colleagues told you that "your generation just doesn't like to work"?...
How to Feel Valued 09.01.2024 22:31
Send us Fan Mail As women physicians, we are doctors, but that's just one of many facets of who we are. We are mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, and so much more! And all of these parts put together make us innately valuable, not just the doctor part. So in this week's episode, I really want us to lean into our value and start to internalize it so that when we encounter something in an...

Today's special gu...
10 Thoughts I am Letting Go of Now 26.12.2023 34:18
Send us Fan Mail The end of the year is a dangerous time for perfectionists. We tend to look back at the year and think to ourselves, " that's all I accomplished ?" and only see the flaws, rather than all of the progress. Then, as we look forward to the new year, we see it as as this bright, new thing, that's magically going to be better than the past. But that can also be pr...

Choosing Discomfort Over ... 12.12.2023 25:30
Send us Fan Mail Our brains love comfort, and habits, and things that make life feel easy. And for good reason too, because it would be pretty tiring if we had to manually choose to do all the regular, recurring tasks in our lives. But our brains also aren't the greatest at choosing habits that serve us best for what we want out of our lives. It's almost like habit forming is a habit, an...
Straighten Your Mind and Your Finances with Special Guest, Dr. Kevin Mailo 05.12.2023 32:49
Send us Fan Mail There's a conundrum that, as physicians, many of us face after finishing all our training. We've accomplished so much in so little time, and from the outside, our lives seem perfect and sparkly. Then, all of a sudden and for the first time ever, we're looking a 30 year career straight in the face, and at that point, questions start to come up about our purpose, iden...
Who Are You Saying No To? 28.11.2023 23:49
Send us Fan Mail Consider this as an idea... When you say "yes" to something, you're saying "no" to something else. I know it seems obvious, but I really want to drive home the fact that we only have a finite amount of time in our days and in our lives; time that should be spent doing the things we love with the people we care most about. And when we say "yes" to...

Shortly after starting his tenure at ENT and All...

I'm so grateful to have been able to speak with Dr. Ritha Belizaire about her story of being one of the few people out there to open up a...
Name Your Priorities 31.10.2023 29:01
Send us Fan Mail As parents, professionals, and even as individuals doing our best to take care of our own needs, I know that it can be exhausting to feel like there's always something more to do. Like the to-do list is always growing. We do so much, and yet still feel scattered- as if we haven't done anything at all. When this is the case, it can be helpful to take a moment to stop and...
