St Brigid’s Day, 1st February, has emerged in recent years as an important occasion to celebrate women’s achievements.  It is a new annual national holiday in Ireland, the first to be called after a woman. In honor of this day, the Embassy of Ireland held a panel discussion featuring trailblazing women in Canada: Chancellor Claudette Commanda and Professor Bridget Brownlow.

This year is the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a landmark achievement by the United Nations, meeting in the wake of World War II. To mark this occasion and to discuss human rights, gender, and conflict, Ambassador McKee’s guest is Canada’s Ambassador for Women, Peace, and Security, Jacqueline O'Neill.
