With three crucial statements God introduces himself to Moses, and to us: I will be with you, I am, I promise.

These two chapters set the stage for the story that follows, and, at the center, they draw our attention to a contest of powers: the king who forgets, and the God who remembers.

Exodus shows us the God who redeems, and what his redemption is for.

The story of Simeon helps us see how, for now, hope often looks like waiting. But Simeon's story also shows us how to find joy in what he saw while we wait.

Our hope defines who we are. Our hope distinguishes us from what we were. And our hope depends completely on the coming of Jesus.

Peter ends his letter with some simple commands that help us bring the hope of Christ into our everyday. Be humble. Stay alert. And keep your eyes on heaven.

Christian communities should be marked off by an unusual humility towards one another. Peter shows this sort of humble community has a lot to do with how elders and members relate to one another in the local church.

Peter says we should expect to suffer because we're Christians, and that we should rejoice when we do. But why? What makes suffering good news?

Peter says the end of all things is at hand. But what he tells us to do about it may surprise you.

How can you live with hope even when you're suffering and don't know what will happen next? Only when you know the Lamb who was slain rules all for his glory and your good.

Suffering has been behind a lot of what Peter has said to encourage his readers. Here that theme comes to the surface. Peter shows that for followers of Jesus suffering is intentional, it's inevitable, and it's hopeful.

This passage has been called the most obscure passage in the New Testament. It's notoriously difficult to understand. But it was given to encourage new believers who were suffering for their faith. So what does it mean, and how is it helpful?

What does it look like to engage the world around you as a Christian?

Peter's final example of alien living is aimed at the life of the church community. We show our hope in Christ, that our hearts our fixed on an inheritance he's promised us, by our otherworldly love for one another.

Peter's words to wives and husbands could be easily misunderstood, even rejected out of hand as a relic from another time. But if we listen carefully to what he says, we'll find a life-giving message that's rooted in the hope of the gospel.

Peter's words to slaves have a tragic history of misinterpretation and abuse. But what is he actually saying about slavery? And what can we learn from what Peter says?

As Believers, we are bound to a heavenly kingdom and by submitting to the Lord we find true freedom. At the same time our orientation to earthly authorities is one of obedience.

In this passage on Christian identity Peter addresses three crucial questions all of us must face. How do you know who you are? Where do you get your validation? Where do you find your purpose?

The natural posture of the hopeful person is love, when hope is tethered to Jesus.

Christian holiness flows out of Christian hope, not the other way around. How should we respond to the hope God has given us? Peter gives us three examples.

Peter says it's possible to rejoice and to grieve at the same time. But only if you have a living hope. Do you?

No one can live without hope. That's why Peter begins his letter with this profile of Christian hope--a secure hope because it begins and ends with God.

Peter wrote this letter to help new Christians understand what it means to follow Jesus when identifying with him sets you apart from the culture where you live.

This book of sorrow ends with a prayer. It's a prayer that wonderfully models the steps of lament we've been following all summer. And it's a prayer perfectly answered in Jesus.
