A conflict in the church, and how the apostles handled it, help us to see what's essential about the church and how we can hold onto it.

Whether they're favored by the people or thrown into prison, the apostles obey, and they rejoice. That's because they know who rules the world, and so can we.

These two stories show us that our posture toward our money says a lot about our posture toward Jesus. We can give because of Jesus, or we can give in place of Jesus.

What does the church’s prayer in the face of persecution teach us about God? That He’s sovereign over all, actively carrying out His plan, and with His messengers as they tell about Jesus.

Acts is the story of what Jesus continued to do in the world after his death and resurrection. This sermon sums up what we've seen him doing through the first four chapters.

Psalm 62 (repost from Kew Baptist Church first Sunday of 2020 - 5th January).  It's around 1000BC and King David is the midst of some stomach-churning political fray. His enemies speak well of him but they are ultimately untrustworthy. He looks to the future and recognises that power and wealth will not last. Where will David go? There is only one savior, so there can be only one Lord.

In the sign Jesus performs through Peter, and in Peter's speech about what happened, we get a wonderful look at what sort of world Christians are hoping for and, even more, what sort of God we're hoping in.

What kind of community does the Spirit create through the gospel?

In Peter's Sermon at Pentecost he gives a clear and compelling statement of the gospel. Peter shows us that the coming of the Holy Spirit is due to the life and work of Jesus. In answering the question, "who is Jesus?" we also come to understand the answer to the question, who is Jesus to us?

The story of Acts began with a promise, the promise that God's Spirit would come with power to his people. In this passage we see that promise fulfilled. But what does it mean?

This story gives us one of the central themes of Acts: from beginning to end, our confidence is based on knowing that God is at work, following his plan, giving his people everything they need.

In this psalm David sings of the goodness of God who found him in death and restored him to life. Because David's song is really Jesus's song, it can be our song too.

The blessings of the gospel flow to us through the often overshadowed event Luke describes in this story. What makes the Ascension of Jesus such good news for us?

The kingdom of God will come as his gift, not as our achievement. While we wait, our job is to bear witness to the King.
