Jacob & his family grow wealthy & strong; God tells him it's time to return to the Promised Land; but leaving won't be as easy as he had hoped. And is Genesis 31 a forshadowing of The Exodus event just a few hundred years down the road?

Early in the day Jacob rolls a stone away from a hole providing water for many sheep, simultaneously meeting his beautiful bride.  

Jacob lays his head on a stone, but what is this stone?  And what about the ladder?  And what about God's covenant now spoken to Jacob directly by the Lord?

The older brother/younger brother type comes into play again. Jacob & Rebekah deceive Isaac, Jacob's dad, to get the most valuable blessing for Jacob rather than Esau.  Esau is angry enough to kill Jacob after learning what has happened.  The births of Esau & Jacob; another younger brother overtakes the older in family standing; the older brother who feels he is about to die gets an extension on life from the thick red liquid provided by the younger brother - sound familiar?

In this episode, we find out why so much of Isaac's life sounds just like Abraham's: (1) Both go through famine; (2) Both live in the land of Abimelech; (3) both lie about their relationship to their wife because they worry about her being taken because of her beauty; (4) both dig wells (the son even re-digs the ones the father dug before); (5) both make covenants to keep peace with kings nearby;...

The father sends the helper into the world to find a bride for the promised son - and she needs to come RIGHT NOW! 

The father takes the promised son to the place of sacrifice where he is miraculously saved on the third day, and it all happens in Genesis 22.

We continue to look at the Older-Brother-Younger-Brother type; Cain kills Abel out of jealousy; Abel's blood cries out; Cain's curse involves wandering without a home; God's protection on Cain.  Is all of this pointing to a bigger story?

Older-Brother-Younger-Brother Types; Why is the younger brother always blessed over the older? Why is the older brother so jealous of God's favor on the younger that he wishes to kill him? Is there a bigger story going on?

Why is Adam's side opened? Why are the bride and groom "naked and unashamed"? Why is the bride of this first sinless man referred to as a "helper"? 

The man needs a helper; none on earth can be found; he is put to sleep and his side opened up; the first bride is "built" from him. What story are we talking about again?

What is typology? Why is it important? Is the Jesus story really on every page of the Scriptures?

Jesus fills the pages of Zechariah and learning to see Him makes this book come alive in ways that are simply impossible without Him.

"On that day"; Another look at the great battle; The Mount of Olives is "split"; darkness, earthquake, a fountain opened; God's people despoil their enemies; people from all nations worship the Lord.

"On That Day"; the removal of false prophets; the striking of the Shepherd from Mark 14:27; the refiner's fire.

God's people are under siege; God comes to their rescue; Mourning for the one (God?) who is pierced;  a fountain of forgiveness is opened.
