Deep Cuts With Jonathan

This week Richard brings records that start with the letter R. Meanwhile, Jonathan plays some deep cuts in his usual grab bag style.

In one of their grab bag specials, Jonathan and Richard each bring their own theme for their selections. Jonathan's looking for funky grooves, and Richard picks his favorite tunes suitable for listening with a good pair of headphones. You'll hear Dr. John, Dan Auerbach, Thundercat, and more.

Jeff brings an eclectic assortment of records for today's grab bag. We hear from The Stooges, Big Star, Dr. Dog, Dispatch, Sublime, and The Yardbirds live among other cool picks.

Jeff stops by for another fun themed show today. He, Richard, and Jonathan join forces to present power pop in its many forms, from its roots to the classics and influenced. We hear from Big Star, The Kinks, The Flamin' Groovies, and move into The Cars, Television, and more.

Jeff, the San Juan Record Man himself, returns to the show with another flawlessly curated collection of tunes. This time he brings a selection of world music, focusing on fusions with rock and jazz, ranging from Exuma and Sandy Bull to Fela Kuti and Gábor Szabó.

James Pribram, founder of the ECO-Warrior Foundation, pro surfer and KXFM DJ, stops by the studio today. They spin Talking Heads, Stone Temple Pilots, and The Replacements, and talk surfing, music, cleaning up the beach, and what's really important in life.

Richard pays tribute to his late brother and their musical upbringing by playing some of his brother's beloved records from their childhood. The holy trinity was The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, and of course The Beatles. But the rock continues with The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Crosby, Stills, & Nash, and The Who, before getting into the folk, singer-songwriter years.

The boys decide to celebrate Bowie around his birthday with two of his records: first, Cracked Actor , the live record from Santa Monica in 1974, and then we rock out to Station to Station . Next up is some Chemical Brothers, and we close it out with Eric Clapton.

Special guest Luke is in town from New York, so Jonathan picks some east coast legends to play. This means Talking Heads, Springsteen, Jason Isbell, and Blondie mixed up with The Go-Go's and Graham Parker.

The boys dedicate this show to the life of Walter Becker and the music of Steely Dan. Richard plays his original pressing of Can't Buy A Thrill and Katy Lied .

Billy Fried, fellow KX FM DJ of Laguna Talks, brings his records in before his own hour. Excellent rockin' and riveting talkin' ensues. Billy spins Steely Dan, Robert Palmer, The Rolling Stones, and more.

Jeff brings another awesome selection themed all things Krautrock and prog. We hear rare vintage vinyl from groups like CAN, Amon Duul II, Genesis, Hawkwind, and more.

Jonathan and Richard are back with another line up of the best live albums from their collections. Tune in for epic jams from Dave Matthews Band, Otis Redding, Tom Petty, David Bowie, and the legendary Nirvana MTV Unplugged session.

Jeff, the local resident San Juan Record Man, brings another cool chunk of his collection to share. Today the theme is 60s garage rock bands such as The Music Machine, The Seeds, and The Shadows of Knight.

Jonathan busts out some of the best indie from the last decade, stringing together Spoon, Vampire Weekend and Jim James to create an immaculate summertime vibe. Meanwhile, Richard keeps up the vibe with Doobie Brothers and Elton John.

Jonathan and Richard celebrate the impeccable discography of Roxy Music with a special edition box set featuring all eight studio albums remastered at Abbey Road Studios.

Jonathan welcomes a special guest in the studio: Los Angeles artist Quinn Alexander. Quinn walks us through his creative process, artistic influences, and personal stories that define his life and music, while we premiere his debut EP. Catch him perform live at LA's Breaking Sound this Wednesday, February 22nd at 7pm.

Jonathan and Richard welcome to the studio the one and only San Juan Record Man, Jeff. He's brought a selection of influential female punk musicians from his personal collection, including Blondie, The Runaways, and the Godmother of Punk herself, Patti Smith.

The gang plays some special renditions of live Dead, and talk about their favorite moments from the group's live performances.

Jonathan's still riding a high from the last Record Store Day because he got the motherlode. Richard chimes in with The English Beat and Shuggie Otis, and Jonathan plays some of his new finds, from a limited edition version of the Pineapple Express soundtrack and Jason Isbell, to live cuts from Santana at Monterey and Stevie Ray Vaughan at Carnegie Hall.

There's one thing on Jonathan and Richard's minds: rock. And thus, this episode of Deep Cuts was born. Everything you'll hear today are rockin' records. The Clash, The White Stripes, AC/DC, Neil Young. That's what rock is all about.
