Dad and Buried
Dad and Buried is a podcast about parenting from a couple of guys who hate parenting. Don't get them wrong, they love their kids - to different degrees, depending on the day (and the kid) - but being a parent is tough, time-consuming, stressful, thankless, expensive, exhausting, largely unrewarding, really loud, often quite boring - did I say expensive yet?,or thankless? - emotionally draining work. Join Mike and Pete as they mock children, bash parenting, and talk about the stuff that most parents don't usually talk about. At least not out loud. Support: https://www.patreon.com/Dadandburied

The Art & Science of Giving Gifts this Holiday Season - #118 | Dad & Buried 23.12.2021 46:19
Ahh Christmas. The holiday that tries to be one thing but ultimately is about another. Parents seem to fall into two camps; those who listened attentively to their spouse and kids throughout the year and bought all presents by November 1st and those of us who now blame lack of presents on "supply chain issues." There are those that give physical gifts and and those that give experiences. In...
Holidays = In Laws: The One Problem Parents Will Never be Able to Solve - #116 | Dad & Buried 09.12.2021 53:39
Let me drop a little math on you; Holidays = In-laws. Boom. Bam. Move over Hawking. Thanks Newton, but I'm good. I just proved the transient property of how your In-Laws WILL show up at your house for holidays. [Nasal voice} "But we normally go to them." Whatever dude, Math isn't an exact science, everyone knows that. Here's the point: you can't have the holidays without t...
Parenting rule #101: Date Night Makes Right - #116 | Dad & Buried 03.12.2021 41:32
Have you heard? Parenting kids is hard! Yeah, the new study just came in, from me, and it's true #science. As parents, the number 1 thing you need to do is keep a united front. To do that you need to be, y'know, "united." How do you unite after all the screaming and crying (not to mention what your kids are doing)? You have a date night. It's a time to reconnect. But more importantly, it's t...
All the Ways Your Kids Can Surprise You (It's Only a Few) - #115 | D&B 18.11.2021 57:24
There are times as a parent your kid, the same kid who barely talks to you, will stand up in front of guests at a party and recite Shakespeare. Ok, fine, that's almost never happened. But, BUT, there are things similar that your kids will do or you're told your kid did that leave you with one simple question "My kid did that?!" Mike and Pete get to the bottom of all the different ways your&nb...
Do Parents Use Tough Love Anymore? - #114 | Dad & Buried 28.10.2021 54:26
We know parents have it tough, but do our kids? A lot's changed since we were kids. Enrique Iglesias was crushing the charts, Smashmouth was a thing, and flying cars is what we had to look forward to in 2021. Maybe the biggest thing that's changed has been parenting styles. Have we gone from "suck" to "blow" in one generation? Too many participation trophies? Too few boundaries? Have we...
Empty Nest Syndrome: A post Covid reality for many? - #113 | Dad & Buried 21.10.2021 39:50
It's been a year and a half since parents took on the mantle of being full time teachers on top of everything else we have going on. While in some households lockdowns meant that child mortality skyrocketed, especially around bedtime [JUST BRUSH YOUR TEEEEEEETH!!], others have lived some kind of Swiss Family Robinson kinda life and now it's all come crashing down as their kids are FINAL...
Are Parents Prepping Our Kids for the Future? - #112 | Dad & Buried 14.10.2021 59:47
I believe the children are the future. We have to teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside...Ahem, had to be done. But are we really getting our kids ready for what the future brings? Are we too over protective? Or are we not protective enough over things like social media habits? Or how are kids use the internet? As always Mike and Pete tackle this h...
Catching Up With the 'Burieds - #111 07.10.2021 42:28
It's been about six weeks since Mike and Heather (aka @dadandburied and @momandburied) talked with each other, so they decided to record it, y'know for posterity. That's a joke. It's been about three weeks. Mike and Heather catch up on their lives vacationing with the kids, to sending them to new schools, to the kid's birthdays. They parent two adorable children who m...
Give it Up For Parenting! - #110 | Dad & Buried 30.09.2021 54:45
The great parenting philosopher Thanos summed it up best when asked by a small child, "what did it cost?" [Thanos]: "Everything." The sacrifice is real and... [looks down at shoes and kicks a stone] worth it. When you become a parent there are some things you know you have to give up like being in a rock band, or wingsuiting. But then there's other things that you never thought you'd have to...
We're Baaaaaack! - #109 | Dad and Buried 23.09.2021 42:14
Alright stop, collaborate and listen, D&B is back with a brand new edition...Ok, sorry I'll stop (no one reads this anyway). How to Raise Well Rounded Kids in 3 Excruciatingly Painful Steps - #108 | Dad & Buried 22.07.2021 59:02
Is it even possible to raise well rounded kids these days? We all fall into our niche interests so quickly. And by niche interests I obviously mean watching stuff on the internet. Are the goalposts too narrow? We want our kids to be polite, but not so polite they don't stand up for themselves. We want them to be good at sports, school, and social stuff but not too focused on any one of those...
When Parents are Jealous of Other People's Kids - #107 | Dad & Buried 01.07.2021 56:52
Every kid has their own unique gift, right? So why do we parents see someone else's kid doing something awesome like a backflip or talking nicely to their parents and immediately think why the hell can't my kid do that?! Yeah, ok my kid's "gift" is that they are an incredibly generous, giving spirit, but I'm talking BACKFLIP people, c'umon! Mike and Pete get into it. Enjoy! Support us 🙏 htt...
As Parents Are We Overcorrecting? - #106 17.06.2021 55:37
Participation trophies were originally used as a way to incentivise kids at a key point (when they are young) to want to keep playing that sport rather than quit after one season. However, now the absence of any merit based trophies means none of our kids are really incentivized to win. In some cases we let our kids off the hook if they don't want to show up for team practice. To Pe...

Parenting Stuff You're Good At - #102 14.05.2021 1:00:46
As it turns out there can be things that as a parent you are good at. Like, say, getting your kid to watch all the 80's and 90's movies you watched growing up *cough* mike *cough* #notcovid. IS that a skill? Can someone be good at that? Who knows. The point is not all parenting sucks. You have to find the things you like and lean into them (I'm getting choked up over here #stillnotcovid)...

Don't Expect Anything When You're Expecting: Things Parents Wish They Knew Before Kids - #97 09.04.2021 59:00
Look, it’s not possible to prepare for a kid. Period. Oh, so you "kinda get it" cause you "look after" your "nieces" and "nephews"? That's some low-rent, pitiful, pre-baby thinking right there. Babies are like a box of chocolates; you never know how you got them. Another chocolate/baby difference is instead of eating them you have to FEED them. That’s a big one. So to sum up, don’t eat babies, you...
