Teaching with metaphors is powerful. Sometimes too powerful. We can be misled by a metaphor. Jesus taught that a birth from heaven is required to be a part of the kingdom of God. Yet that metaphor of birth might lead us to think that we are given a life that we must then live on our own. So Jesus also taught that our lives are like a branch in the vine. We explore this teaching from John 15.

Jesus told the religious leaders in John 5 that His Father (our God) is always working, even on the Sabbath, and even to this very day. We rejoice in that work, and we want to join that work that He is doing.

Jesus said that there are plenty of opportunities to join the work of God, both in the church and in the world. So He told us to pray for God to send out workers. We join in that prayer, and we join in the action of finding places to serve together.

What would it be like to overflow with hope? Oh, for the power of God in us to give us such hope!

Justice means that unjust actions require just consequences. And one model of forgiveness is the suspension of justice. This model says that, when God forgives, He chooses to suspend justice as an act of mercy. Yet the Bible provides a different model.

In our Life Groups, we build community, we study the Bible, we grow in our vision of diverse unity, and we seek to support each other in serving. This week, we learn what this looks like in our Thursday evening women's Zoom group.

Central to the celebration of Christmas is the telling of Good News, that the Son of God became a man, so human beings can become the loved and joyous Children of God.
