As we follow Jesus, we can be confident that God is up to something in our lives. And as we finish our series from 1 John, we examine four certainties that give confidence to our faith.

What is the way to having real life? What is the way to faith? These two questions rest at the heart of the Scripture we examine during this weekend’s talk.

How we define love matters, and God has created us to love him and to love others. Let us let God’s love radically change and transform us, and let us love one another well.

The stage is set for us to show the world what real love looks like. May we be a church that loves with sacrifice, not selfishness; may we be known by how we give up for each other, and not just put up with each other.

Living in sin is incompatible with abiding in Christ. We won’t reach some level of perfection before Jesus comes back. But our attitude toward sin ought to be one of disgust—when we mess up, it ought to bother us because that’s not like Christ.

Salvation is not earned through endurance, but endurance is a mark and sign of those who follow Jesus. Is Jesus still the one you know who can save you, redeem you, restore you, or are you looking to other sources for hope?

We’re called to love like Jesus loves, but our love gets misguided, misdirected at times. You can have a real relationship with God, but there’s something that can break that union apart, John warns: a love for the world.

If you’re growing in obeying God’s commands, if you’re growing as a person of love, and if you’re learning to walk in your new identity in Jesus—that is all evidence that you’re trusting and fully following Jesus.

If we take God seriously, we’ll also take sin seriously. And the reality of our sin should sober us and move us more deeply toward God’s grace through Jesus.
