God wants you to be an encouraging friend. 

We all need words of encouragement from a friend and we need to be that friend. Pro 25:11  A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. Pro 25:12  As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

God tells us in His Word how to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, it will not be easy but it make an eternal difference.  Luke 9:1-6 

Being criticized can be very hurtful and the devil will use that to try and stop you from moving forward for the Lord, listen to how God wants you to handle it. 

It is hard to not take criticism personal as a christian and can hurt at times Jesus gives us the best answer for how to take criticism.
