Conversations with COJO

Our first episode of 2021 features Dr. Marina Hendricks.  Dr. Hendricks is an assistant professor in the school, teaching journalism, public relations as well as courses in our online Master of Mass Communication program. Our next episode will be available on January 15th.

Dr. Jennifer Anderson is an Associate Professor in the School of Communication and Journalism at South Dakota State University, as well as the Graduate Program Coordinator for both the Master of Arts program in Communication and Media Studies and the online Master of Mass Communication program. Our next episode will be available on January 1st.

Our 18th episode features a conversation with sports reporter and MMC graduate Charean Williams.  Charean has covered the National Football League for over 25 years and was the first woman to vote in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  Our next episode will be available on December 18th.

Our 16th episode features a conversation well-known SDSU Journalism alum and photographer Greg Latza.  Greg spoke with graduate student McCade Ivarsen about his time at SDSU and some of his photography projects.

Our 15th episode features a conversation with journalism students Tori Berndt and Carter Schmidt. Our next podcast will be available on November 20th.

Our 15th episode features a conversation with popular COJO faculty member Jim Helland.  Jim's teaching focuses on journalism writing and reporting as well as sports and feature writing.

Our 14th episode features a conversation with new COJO faculty member Dr. Katy Coduto.  Dr. Coduto comes to SDSU after finishing her Ph. D at Ohio State University.  McCade was able to catch up with Dr. Coduto earlier this week. Our 12th and first podcast for the fall semester features School of Communication and Journalism Director Dr. Lyle Olson and Associate Director Dr. Josh Westwick. Our next podcast will be available September 25th and feature a conversation with Dr. Rocky Dailey.

Our 11th and final podcast for the spring semester features Associate Professor Becky Kuehl.  Bea and McCcade spoke with Dr.  Kuehl earlier this spring after some technical issues happened with their first recording. Coffee with COJO will be in hiatus during the summer session but back with new episodes this August.

Our tenth episode features a conversation with two of our recent online Master of Mass Communication graduates, Luci Harrel and Suzanne Albers, who talk about their professional project work and their experience in an online master's program.  

This ninth episode is hosted by graduate student McCade Ivarson and features Andrea Carlile, forensics director and lecturer in the school. Mccade talked to Andrea a few weeks ago. Our next episode will be available on May 8th and feature a conversation with students who are graduating from the online master of mass communication program this spring. 

Our eighth podcast features Miranda O'Bryan.  Miranda is a senior double major in journalism and history, and her honors independent study was creating a documentary on the Day in the Life of Freeman project from 26 years ago.  Miranda talked to students in the original publication, which featured photos by SDSU journalism students documenting the small town of Freeman, South Dakota on April 20, 1...

Our seventh podcast features Madison Van Walleghen.  Madison is a first year graduate student in the communication and media studies program and is also a graduate teaching assistant. Dave has experience as a photojournalist for the Brookings Register and as digital media producer for KDLT-TV.  He now works as a freelance photographer specializing in sports.  Dave has photographed many SDSU sporting events and often talks to our journalism classes about his experience.
