Yesterday, Mormon taught us about being clasped in the arms of Jesus as we repent. Today, he talks about being in the Savior's hands. Hands are a Hebrew symbol of Power and protection. So Mormon is really showing us in this chapter the love that comes to us as we come unto Him, but also the Protection the power and the strength that comes in Him as well. 

Mormon, in these verses describes the atonement in probably my favorite way ever. He says that to repent and use the atonement is to be "clasped in the arms of Jesus." I can't imagine a more beautiful feeling or a better reason to life a life of continuous repentance. 

Here, Mormon tells us that the Lord had told him, that the people of his day were the most wicked group there had ever been! That is HUGE! They were more wicked than those who crucified Christ. I have always been so impressed of the description given of 10 year old Mormon here! Sober, and quick to observe. But what do those things really mean? And why is it so important for us to try and receive those same gifts of the Spirit?

I love so much that the Lord asks His disciples what they desired of Him. I love that the Lord is anxious for us to express our desires to Him and anxious to bless us with the righteous desires of our hearts.

When the Savior commands that we ought to be as He is, it can feel a bit overwhelming and impossible. I am nowhere near there. However, even though becoming like Him is a lifelong pursuit, we can follow the charge he gives in the very next verses. We can ask for the Christlike gifts we are seeking. Understanding the Spirit of Elijah was so incredibly important to our Heavenly Father that He commanded the Savior to teach the Nephites about it, and he commanded Moroni to teach Joseph Smith about it as an essential part of the restoration. Why is the Spirit of Elijah and the keys of the sealing power so essential to our exaltation? And how can we be a part of God's work of salvation?

I always knew that the Book of Mormon was incredible and powerful. Here in these verses the Savior is going to teach us that the coming forth of the Book of Mormon will also serve as a sign to His people that the gathering of Israel is about to begin. The Lord, through the words of Isaiah, teaches us that, though we often bind ourselves to sin though our choices, the Savior though His atonement, has the ability to redeem us, to buy us back and to free us. How grateful I am for the atonement of Jesus Christ and His ability to free me and change me though His grace. 

In chapter 20, the Savior is teaching the people about the covenants and promises that God had made with His people. The Savior was trying to show the people the pattern that God has of making and keeping promises. As did the disciples of old, I think at one time or another we have all looked to the heavens and in some way asked, "Carest thou not that we perish?" Our storms of life all look different, but one thing is consistent through them all. The Savior has the ability to look upon us and our struggles and say, "Peace, be still."

I loved this talk, I loved even just the title of this talk! The Exquisite Gift of the Son. Exquisite means extreme beauty or unparalleled magnificence. Truly, when I catch a glimpse of the personal nature of the atonement of Jesus Christ, I see how beautiful and magnificent it really is!
