I love verse 67, it makes me feel like when we enter the Celestial Kingdom there will be no shortage of people who have made it. Sometimes I think we loose sight of the idea that God created this plan to exalt His children, and that means to exalt you as well. While these verses that teach us about the adversary aren't the happiest verses of this section, they serve to teach us something really important. Satan is real, his attacks are real. But just as we overcame him in the premortal world through the blood of the Lamb and the power of our testimony, we can overcome him and his attacks today in the very same way!

Happy 4th of July! Today we think about the freedom we receive from brave men and women who have fought for our liberty, and the freedom that has been offered us by a loving Savior.

The Lord commands the Elders in these verses to go for than to preach and prune the vineyard. Often times we talk about the vineyard as being the church or the world. But what if we made it more personal? What if to most effectively teach the gospel of Jesus Christ we are being ased to cut the things from our lives that don't serve or help us be better. 

When the Lord commands us to lay all things in the Lord's storehouse, it can be easy to assume that isn't relevant to us today. However, the more we come to understand the law of consecration the more we understand the full scope of the Lord's storehouse.

Today we took a step back into section 71 because I forgot to talk about my favorite verse in that section! I love the promise that no weapon forged against us will prosper. However, if we overlook the caveat that the Lord gives in verse, 10 we could be sorely disappointed. No weapon forged against us will prosper IN THE LORD'S DUE TIME. Here in section 72 the Lord is calling Newell K Whitney to serve as the 2nd bishop in the church. But he didn't feel capable of the calling, he said that he couldn't see a bishop in himself. I think we can all relate to Newell a little bit here. Today we talk about not just what Heavenly Father expects of us as we serve Him, but the promises He makes to us as well.  

In these scriptures the Lord teaches us so much about continuing revelation! When he talks about "revelations to come" it is amazing to remember that we believe that God will "yet reveal many great and important things." What a blessing it is to live in the time of the ongoing restoration and to witness the LIVING church!

Here as Joseph and Sydney were being called upon to go and do difficult things the Lord makes a promise that they can receive an added measure of the Spirit and His Power. The same promises are given to you and I in our lives. We have access to power from our Father in Heaven in our lives. But it isn't a power we can take for ourselves, it is a power that is given to us as we do things to draw it...

We learn an incredible lesson as the Lord asks Joseph and Sydney to pause the work of the translation of the Bible. As falsehoods and exaggerations were being published all around, the Lord didn't command them to go and defend their name, He commanded them to go teach truth. True doctrine is the best antidote for people who would see to destroy faith.  

In this verse the Lord gives us a commandment to pray. Of all the commandments that have been repeated in the scriptures, the command to communicate with our Father in Heaven might be one of the most repeated. Today we talk about the gift of prayer.

Yesterday we talked about the importance of teaching our children. Today we talk about why each of those things are so important for kids to understand if they are going to stay close to their Father in Heaven. 

The Lord is extremely clear: it is our duty to teach the  children in our lives the principles of the gospel. That responsibility can often feel super daunting and overwhelming. But verse 25 as well as the Savior teachings in 3 Nephi 11 are clear. His doctrine, the most important things we can teach, are actually pretty simple, and its all found in the 4th Article of Faith. 

When the Lord tells us to "Be of good cheer," I think sometimes it is easy to misinterpret that command as Him telling us to cheer up. But the true meaning of "Be of good cheer" is an invitation to experience the hope that comes as we feel Him near, and the core and lasting joy that we develop as we follow Him.  

Here in the beginning of section 68 the Lord tells Orson Hyde that he is ordained "to proclaim the everlasting gospel." It is sometimes easy to read a scripture like that and disconnect and not see how it relates to us. However, each of us as members of the church, by way of our covenant relationship with our Heavenly Father has the same responsibility given to us! We may not have hands placed on...

This may sound super weird, but one of my favorite things about the gospel of Jesus Christ is watching the miracle of the perfect gospel going forward on the backs of imperfect people! I think it is so vital that we allow our leaders; whether it's Joseph Smith, President Nelson or our bishops the grace to be imperfect. Because heaven knows that when its our turn to make mistakes, we will want that...

Here in these verses we can learn the role that faith and patience can have in our prayers and in our perfection.

The lord makes us 2 promises that go hand in hand in these verses. The first, is that if we approach Him he will show us our faults and weaknesses. Which sounds pretty depressing, until you combine it with the promise made in verse 8. That if we are faithful and turn to Him, He, through His grace, can help us find strength!

When the Lord teaches the saints that His gospel is the stone cut out f the mountain without hands, He wants them to understand that this is HIS work. He invites us to participate in His work so that He, in turn, can shape us into His people. 

It is my sincere belief that God's greatest desire is to perfect us daily little by little. But I also truly believe that He can best perfect us by working through us, not on us. No wonder we are to give him ALL our hearts. To do what we do without wearying. Everyday as we give it all to Him, He is better able to perfect and cleanse our hearts! 

Far too often we get so caught up in feeling like we can't do enough, that we give up and do nothing instead. I am MAJORLY guilty of that. But because that is a natural human tendency, I love this command from the Lord, "Be not weary in well doing." The big things or the small things don't get weary, don't give up. Because all that you do, whether big or small is laying a foundation in God's kingd...

2 days ago we talked about the Saviors role in offering us forgiveness, yesterday we talked about his commandment to offer forgiveness to others. Today we talk about his role in how we can forgive others, especially when it is hard.
