Why Try to Be Saved if Election is True? | Reddit User Question on r/Calvinism | ep. 14 27.03.2026

In this episode, I answer the following Reddit question from a Biblical perspective on Election: "Hello, I was introduced to Calvinism a few years ago. Right now, I'm currently unsaved whereas wrath is my final destination. My question is: if salvation is based on who is the elect, is there really any reason to worry since it is all in the hands of God? I mean because no matter what you d...

Breaking Down the John 6:44 Debate | White vs. Flowers | Coffee with John Calvin ep. 13 30.10.2025

In this video, I review the debate that James White and Leighton Flowers had on John 6:44 (which really ended up being a debate on John 6:45). I am more Reformed so I was already extremely biased in White's direction, and after reviewing the debate more thoroughly, I still feel like White's position is much more easily defended from the text they were actually debating. Each side could pull from o...

The Unregenerate Mind and The Martyrdom of Charlie Kirk (A Calvinist Perspective) | ep. 12 14.09.2025

In this episode, I look at Scripture pertaining to three areas: (1) the unregenerate mind of unbelievers, (2) God's divine plan amidst horrific evils, and (3) the necessity of declaring the Gospel so that God can work through it to save elect sinners. It is hard for us as Christians to process school shootings and assassinations, and many other horrific events in the world, but we must always...

Reprobation & The Gift of Faith | Calvin on John 6:43-44 | ep. 011 08.02.2025

In this episode, we look at Calvin's commentary on John 6:43-44 (NASB 1995), "43 Jesus answered and said to them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. 44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day." I discuss the concept of faith as a gift to God's elect people, His sheep, as well as the passing over, or reprobation, of those who reject Chri...

Calvin, Christians, & Ben Shapiro on the Incarnation | John 6:41-42 | ep. 010 02.11.2024

In this episode, we look at Calvin's commentary on John 6:41-42, as well as a clip from Ben Shapiro explaining the Jewish expectations of the Messiah, and how they differ from Christians.

How do we know if we are predestined? | John 6:40 | ep. 009 14.09.2024

In this episode, we dive into John 6:40, Calvin's commentaries, and other supporting texts that help us elucidate what reveals evidence that we are truly saved and predestined.

The Shepherd Protects the Elect | Calvin on John 6:39 | Drawn by the Father - Part 4 | ep. 008 25.07.2024

In this episode, we look at John Calvin's commentary on John 6:39. We see a clear picture of the justification and reasoning behind how we can rest assured that we have eternal security in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We also look at some of the parallels between John 6 and John 10, that in both scenarios, we see that the Father gives the elect to the Son, just in John 10 we see that t...

Predestined Individuals or a Predestined Process? | John 6:38-39 | Drawn by The Father - Part 3 | ep. 007 23.07.2024

In this episode, I first respond to a Reddit troll who completely misunderstood my article on the correlation between obedience and our love for God/success for the Kingdom. Next, I look at Calvin's commentary of John 6:38-39, as well as Ephesians 1:1-12, to see if individuals are predestined (adopted) by God, or if simply the process (or plan) of salvation was predestined by God. One of the m...

Faith is a Gift? | Calvin on John 6:37-38 | Drawn by the Father - Part 2 | ep. 006 22.07.2024

In this episode of the Coffee With John Calvin podcast, we discuss Calvin's view that faith is a gift from God, and that faith is not sourced from the will of fallen creatures, but is sourced only from God. It is a super interesting discussion. The idea that faith is a gift from God is supported in other areas of Scripture, as John Piper also argues, as we will see once we get further into thi...

Thomas Aquinas on John 6:35-44 | Drawn by the Father - Part 1 | ep. 005 19.07.2024

In this episode, I explain how irresistible grace is a doctrine that arises by a careful study of John 6:35-44. I also look to Thomas Aquinas’ commentary on the part of the passage where Christ says that of that given to Him He loses nothing, and how he attempts to reconcile that with John 17:12, where Christ says that none have been lost except the son of perdition. Aquinas has two categories for...

John 6:35 |The Bread of Life | ep. 004 18.07.2024

In this episode, I read John 6:35-44 to frame the discussion of prevenient vs. irresistible grace. Then, we look to John Calvin's commentary on John 6:35, where Christ refers to Himself as the Bread of Life, to see what meanings we can gather from the words of our Messiah. Please like, share, and leave a positive review!

Romans 8:7-9 | God's Providence and the Mind Set on the Spirit | ep. 003 17.07.2024

In this episode, we look to John Calvin's commentary of Romans 8:7-9, where Paul shows that the believer's mind is set on the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in us. Calvin addresses three themes in this episode, (1) divine providence, (2) human responsibility and accountability, and (3) the inadequacies of applying a freewill mindset to this passage of Scripture. Please share th...

Romans 8:5-7 | The Mind Set on the Flesh | ep. 002 16.07.2024

In this episode, we explore the difference in the mind set on the flesh vs. the mind set on the Spirit. It appears clear that Calvin taught that outside of God’s grace through regeneration, all we do is evil. And this makes sense, if we could actually do things that are spiritually fruitful without the Spirit of God in our lives, if we could actually do what is pleasing to God without God working...

John Calvin's Educational Background and His Commentary on Genesis 1:1 | ep. 001 14.07.2024

In this episode, we look at three reasons why John Calvin possesses a unique tool kit for interpreting Scripture: (1) his background in studying Law, (2) his study of Renaissance Humanism, and (3) his study of the original languages of Scripture and early translations of Scripture (i.e., Hebrew, Latin, and Greek). Furthermore, we look at Calvin's commentary on Genesis 1:1 to exemplify his abil...
