Jesus has the authority over darkness - His Kingdom directly confronts the kingdom of darkness and Jesus is victor. 

How did Jesus understand the presence of evil in the world, what was His response to it, and what does is it say about Him? 

It is not enough for us to say that Jesus is a Saviour, or even the Saviour. With Mary, the mother of Jesus Himself, we must say, “My spirit has rejoiced in God my Saviour”. 

This is always the question that we should arrive at when we hear the Word of God – what difference does it make to me? Jesus raised up disciples to follow in His footsteps, and those disciples raised up disciples to follow them as they followed Christ and on and on it goes until finally it is passed down to us. The great temptations that face our lives also faced Jesus. Where every human being has failed, Jesus has been victorious giving credit to the claim He is Lord. In this passage Luke records the temptations of Jesus in the wilderness and his ability to persevere over the satan; the enemy of our soul.

Jesus, the Son of God, has also the title 'Son of Man'. Jesus comes from a lineage, from a people group, who has a history with the God of the bible and He also comes from God the Father. This is a profound mystery and a gracious gift; that God would enter our world, and submit Himself to every part of it. 

This is the legacy we inherit; the life that we’re called to imitate. In Ephesians 5:1-2 Paul writes, “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”  We have the example of Christ - the example of love - to walk towards in becoming people of love.

Luke continues the story of the God of Israel who comes to live among His people. This is the world Jesus grows up in and subjects Himself to.

A.W. Tozer said, "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” What we think about God will shape our destiny because we become that which we worship. Who is God to you today? 

What would it mean for your if God showed up in front of you today? What would it mean for you if God showed up as a baby? What it meant for those Jesus arrived to is found in Luke chapters one and two and their response is joy and hope - a Saviour has come, and His name is Jesus. 

This is the song of an old man who just had a miracle happen in his life. All of Zechariah’s disappointments were met with the hope of God sending our rescuer. What comes out of hope is a song; what's inside of us will come out.

God gave us the law in the Old Testament to demonstrate to us that we are all sinners. No matter how much we try we cannot lift ourselves out of our sad predicament. In this passage we encounter the joy of Mary and the her joy comes in the form of a song. Mary's was a joy that compelled her to lift her voice in a song of praise. Praise is an appropriate response from each of us who have received the grace, mercy and forgiveness of God.

Mary is willing to let go of her comfort, her security, her identity, her reputation, her marriage, and she doesn’t blink, “I’m the servant of the Lord, whatever he would have from me.” Mary should not be our object of faith, but she should be an example of faith. Every man and woman should aspire to have faith like Mary’s, to love God, to trust God, and to serve Jesus like she did.

"A longing fulfilled is a tree of life." - Proverbs 13:12  Luke begins his account of Jesus with the story of two characters who have been waiting faithfully for the promise of God. Luke records their longings being fulfilled by a faithful God; both for a son of their own, and for the promise of the 'Son of Man'. 

In this new series, we walk through the account of the Good News according to Luke. Each week we will study and expound on Luke's writings about Jesus the Christ. Join us as we lean into what it means to be found by Jesus; belonging to His community, in a world where His Kingdom has been inaugurated. This is Good News indeed. 

Phillip Brooks said, "Let every man and woman count himself immortal. Let him catch the revelation of Jesus in his resurrection. Let him say not merely, 'Christ is risen,'  but 'I shall rise.'"  Death where is your sting? Where is your victory? Thanks be to God, we have victory through Jesus Christ our Lord.  He is risen!

Do this in remembrance, proclaiming the Lord's death until He comes again.  We will be partaking in the Lord's Supper to remember Good Friday - please have your emblems (bread and juice/wine). 

The Way of Jesus, coupled with the Truth of Jesus, will lead to the Life of Jesus and it is through Jesus we have access to God the Father. To quote the author of John. "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." Jesus is Life Eternal. 

"Apart from Me, you can do nothing" - Jesus.  Jesus didn't just come into this world to make bad people good. He came to make dead people alive. Without God our spirits remain dead and are still bound from entering the Kingdom of God. With God we can 'bear much fruit' and lasting fruit, from a life that is rooted in Love. 

Each of us have wandered away from God and followed our own paths. The result is separation from God because of sin. But Jesus has come to bring us back to God; to bring the wandering sheep home. Walk through the Door and into the fold of God. Go to Jesus.
