Are you tending to the garden of your life? What is the state of the soil of your heart? Are you hard-hearted? Do you have distracting weeds? Or are you ready to produce a harvest? For Jesus, the heart of the matter is the matter of the heart. He is inviting you to give Him yours. 

Don’t believe the lie that you are too far gone to be accepted by God. In fact, maybe your circumstance is helping you to see how much you need God. If this is you, we want you to reach out. We're here to walk with you in your journey to discover that Jesus is worth following with everything in your being and that He is relentlessly kind. 

How do we handle unmet expectations? How do we navigate our doubts? Know that even in our disappointments, and disillusionments, the Lord is at work and is building His Kingdom. May we consider how we will see Him at work today. 

God is with you. God’s presence, the same presence that indwelled Jesus, is with you. God’s presence that was in Capernaum and healed the servant is with you now. Jesus heals simply by word because He is God, He has authority. You may not see Jesus physically but He is with you through the Holy Spirit. He just has to say the word. Put your trust in Him. 

What is the foundation of your life? We all build our lives on something. Jesus is inviting you to build your life on a solid foundation: life with God. 

In your life and mine we will come up against obstacles that are simply too great to overcome. What do we do in those moments? The answer to that question defines us in many ways. What do we do when the rubber meets the road and it’s no longer about pretense and appearance; it’s about what we truly believe?

Seeking Jesus in our annual Week of Prayer is a cherished opportunity to begin a new year. God rewards those who diligently seek Him. Those who are hungry and thirsty for the life God gives, find it in Jesus; He is Living Water. 

For those who are followers of Jesus: Our prayer is that we would be a reminder our great hope and promise. As Christians we live in a tension of 'already and not yet'. We look back at Jesus triumph over our enemies of Satan, sin and death and know He has the victory. But we also know there is coming a day when He will establish himself as King. Isaiah 7:14, centuries before Jesus arrived as a baby said, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.”  God does what He promises - and the promise is true for the world and for you. God is with us - make room for Jesus. 

This Christmas we celebrate peace because peace is a gift from God; a gift of wholeness, and of shalom-relationship between us and God. It is given through the life, death, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ.

At the end of the day, the question always come back to this: what will we do with what God has done for us? The Christmas Story leaves us with two options; acceptance or rejection. Is there room in our hearts for the Lord or we will shut the door to Him and miss out on the joy of life with God? What will we choose? What about you?

The Gospel of Jesus is the good news of a transformed life. The truth  of Jesus is made effective and alive when we practice the way  of Jesus - and that is what Jesus is doing -  forming a new kind of people - transformed by love so that they can overflow in love. 

Who is 'blessed'? Jesus has His own take on reality, the 'good life', and who God deems as blessed - it is as subversive in His day as it is in ours. The challenge for us today is whether or not we choose to believe Christ's narrative about reality over any other. Life with God is the good life - truth we must accept and live out daily. 

Luke records Jesus' next move. Who does Jesus think He is? He is the rightful King - and now He's calling to Himself a new kind of people - new creations - people whos hearts are made new - who prevail over evil with love not violence or coercion.  The twelve. In this short story of Jesus in Luke 5 we find that those who were uninvited to the world, are invited to the very table of Jesus; the very table of God. It's a message that is as subversive then as it is today. God has invited all. Who will accept?

He did that because He cared, He alleviated suffering wherever He went because He genuinely loved people. He still does. His true followers do as well. Instead of living in, Fear, Resentment, Hurt, Revenge, Bitterness, Anxiety — Will you give God thanks today? What's your routine for gratitude? 

May we never forget, that though there is much gain in life with God, there is always a cost in a life lived for God. What are you sacrificing? What are you giving? What are you doing for God and for others? 

And herein lies the power of the church; a church that truly follows Christ is the presence of the light of the world living in us. The Church, is still the hope of the world. 

Because we can draw near to God through Christ, we can now also draw near to each other in sincerity of heart. Christianity is constitutively communal and it is the means by which God transforms us into people of love. However uncomfortable 'community' may be at times, it will always bring us more life than we can give to it. 

Some things in the Christian walk are uncomfortable. The heart of being a follower of Jesus requires us to step out of our comfort into the uncomfortable at times. True change can only happen when you are willing to be challenged to grow rather than affirmed where you are.
