Do we want to have the same heart that God has? Do we want to be filled with love and compassion for those who are lost? Or, do we want to burn with anger towards them? How we answer these questions goes a long way in answering if we want to have the love and character that God is trying to produce in us.

What can we learn about humility and repentance from wicked people? In Jonah chapter three, we see how the Ninevites respond to a message from God. And God's response to the Ninevites is amazing! Our God of compassion and love shows His heart to us through today's message.

Jonah's prayer in Jonah 2 is... interesting. There are some good pieces to it, but it seems like he misses the mark in other things that he says. As we look at this prayer from the belly of the fish, we nee to ask ourselves, "Is this the right response to God?" Today we look at Jonah chapter 1. In this chapter we see God's unmistakable love for people. It doesn't always show up in the way we think it will. But God's good ways are higher than ours. He intervenes in our lives so that we will be saved from our own foolishness.

Acts 3 & 4 details the early church displaying incredible courage. Is this only a trait of the first church? Do churches today have genuine courage as well? Do we live our lives in a way that requires us to have courage? Will be choose to be bold and courageous when a moment calls for it? After the Holy Spirit filled the believers at Pentecost and 3,000 more people joined the church, what happened next? What did the church do from that point on? Today we look at what the church devoted itself to and the experience of God that they had as a result of their devotion.

How will Jesus' followers be witnesses for Him? How will they make disciples for Him? They are just a small group and they are meant to take his message to the whole world. Here on Pentecost Sunday we see the empowerment of Jesus' church to fulfill the mission that He has given to us. Today we talk about the baptism and the filling of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus has promised the Holy Spirit to His followers. Do we joyfully receive it as a promised gift? In what Jesus says to us today in Acts 1:1-11, we learn that it's through the power of the Holy Spirit that we are able to be witnesses to the life of faith. This precursor to Pentecost is an important teaching for all believers who are seriously about following Christ.

We often call this passage the great commission. The church was never called together just to enjoy fellowship, just to worship God in song, or just to hear biblical teaching. The church has been sent by Jesus Himself. The first people of the church - the disciples - were sent and so are you and me. We're sent out to make disciples. This message discusses Jesus' sending of us.

What happens when our faith, confidence in God, and love for Him is mixed with doubts, fear, and uncertainty? Does God reject us or work to help us? We read about the disciples toward the very end of Jesus' time on earth in a situation where they were wavering a little bit. Jesus is good! He knows our weaknesses and he helps us to stand.

Jesus is a God of restoration! This is one of the great works that He did during his life and ministry and even in his last days here on earth after his resurrection. Many of us do things that we feel ashamed of and we then struggle with feelings of being undeserving of fullest participation in God's Kingdom. Still focusing on the events of resurrection day here in Luke 24, we're going to see Jesus minister in a slightly difference way since He is now in His resurrected body. We're also going to see the exciting life change that an encounter with Jesus can produce. And we'll see that Jesus is a promise keeper and preparing His people to be led by the Holy Spirit.

On this Easter Sunday we look back to something that Jesus said to His disciples in the upper room during their Passover meal. Jesus made some bold claims - some promises. Did they all come true? This might be the most important part of discernment: It should result in us living in wisdom. What's the point of being discerning if we never apply what we've discerned to how we live? That would be pointless. But discernment that shapes the way we live is the wisdom that we need to walk in.

In today's message we look at four different ways to be discerning. The bible gives us specific categories for our discernment to grow in and function. Each of these ways of discerning are necessary for us to have a well rounded approach to the Christian life, so that we can operate in partnership with God, and be mature believers following God's wisdom.

How do followers of God understand if they are thinking, deciding, and acting according to what God says is good? They have to exercise discernment. Discernment is an important skill to develop for all Christians. It requires a balanced approach that is described in today's message.

Psalm 1 describes the good life that we are meant to have as we live in fellowship with God. It contrasts the life and the outcome of the righteous and the wicked person.

When we realize how greatly God has lavished His love on us, we have to choose how we are going to respond to it. The Israelites were faced with that choice in Joshua 24. As we look at Joshua's final address the the people of Israel, we draw some parallels to how we are meant to choose to respond to our great God of love today.

It's so humbling to think that Jesus prays for us in John 17. But, John 17:26 is crazy! We're going to dig deep into this verse to understand what Jesus is praying we would receive from the Father. So often as Christians, we work hard to abide in Christ - which is good. But, Christ himself is praying that He would abide in us!
