Paul is about to show us what to do “when in Rome…” Paul, over the next two years of his life, is about forever alter that culture. He’s blending with the culture the way salt blends with soup: the soup may appear to consume the salt, but the salt will forever alter the nature of the soup.  

What comes to mind when you think of the Kingdom of God? Do you think of a castle or a garden? As we return to Paul and Luke shipwrecked at Malta, we will consider not only the gift of a strange sabbatical, but how Paul is fulfilling Jesus’ instructions to bear witness even to the ends of the earth. This week we’ll see as Paul using a virtue that is not often emphasized in the Christian life, but is definitely prominent in some of the spiritual greats of history, that attribute is cunning. Paul’s life is on the line and his shrewd wisdom is on full display in sowing division in the ranks of Gods enemies.

Paul utilizes his track record with God to try and convince a Jewish crowd about the Good News of Jesus.

This week we join Paul as he arrives in Jerusalem and receives a greeting from his spiritual brothers, followed by a public relations campaign to improve Paul’s reputation. Our passage ends with a reception by Paul’s ethnic brothers, which is somewhat less than cordial. Join us as we discuss expectations regarding the reception of “brothers.”

This week we sill study Acts 21 where Paul is confronted by friends and perhaps the Holy Spirit giving directives and warnings to avoid Jerusalem. This text gives us an opportunity not just to consider dealing with our own persecution, but also how to handle the persecution of our fellow saints.

How is the church to respond when confronted by a mob full of rage and confusion? This week we’ll consider not only how the gospel conquered the idols of Ephesus but also how the church is to engage with our own hostile world.

What does it take for the church to move the culture? This week we’ll examine a cultural tide that begins sweeping through Asia Minor, as we examine the impact of Christianity on Ephesus and the surrounding regions.

How significant is baptism? If baptism has been done is a sub-optimal way, is rebaptism necessary? Is being re-baptized even biblical? Join us this week as we observe a peculiar interaction with Paul and some disciples upon arriving in Ephesus, and discuss “course correction.”

Jesus told his followers to pray for the “Lord of the Harvest to send workers into the harvest.” This week we will take a look at such a worker raised seemingly from obscurity to become one of the central figures and leaders in the first century church. Join us as we look at Acts chapter 18 and discuss Apollos joining into the mission effort, as Paul begins his third missionary journey.
