In this third sermon of our series Central Strong, Campus Pastor Kellen Anderson, in split devotional style, talks about the importance and value of worship.

Jesus’ greatest lesson on leadership came as he washed his Disciples’ feet. Becoming great means humbling ourselves and taking on the nature of a servant first. Today’s devotional challenges us to consider how we’re serving the people around us as Jesus served those around him.

We’ve all dug holes for ourselves. We messed up, we didn’t fess up, and then things just snowballed until we were in an even bigger mess than when we started. Proverbs 21:27-29 shows us the wisdom of a person who thinks ahead and doesn’t make bigger messes of their mistakes.

Pride and arrogance is a real thing that all of us struggle with. And if you think you don’t, then that’s probably a sign that you do. Proverbs 21:24-26 says some wise things about this predicament that we all find ourselves in. Today’s devotional looks more into it as well.

If you’re like the rest of us, you probably don’t feel all that wise at times. You make irrational decisions at the worst of times. And it doesn’t seem to matter how hard you try not to. But Jesus has wisdom in store, and he’s looking to pass it on to you. Today’s devotional helps us see that wisdom doesn’t come always from trying harder, but from relying on Jesus deeper.

Following Jesus isn’t just supposed to be a destination change. Getting to heaven isn’t what it’s all about. Bringing heaven down to earth should be our mission. Being Jesus in a world that needs him is part of our calling. What will you do today to fulfill that call?

Evil in the world is real. Humans are capable of much evil, but we don’t have to give in to that evil. Jesus is the answer to a tender heart. Have you let the grace of Jesus transform your heart from one of evil desires to one of seeking good?

Do you like being around people who are fun and kind, or who are sad and quick tempered? Easy answer, right? So why do I sometimes struggle to be fun and kind to others? Maybe today we could all use the reminder of what makes someone want to be around me. And hint: it looks a lot more like Jesus than anything else.

What would you rather have...a friend who talks too much or a friend who you know won't say more than they should? Well, if it comes to keeping a secret, there's only one answer here! There is wisdom in having few words. And there is wisdom in trusting people who use their words wisely, and sometimes seldomly. Proverbs 20:19 has something to say about this.
