There are so many things that go on at Christmas time: shopping, baking, parties, traveling, new shows, new movies, gifts, and usually a lot of food! But how do we not lose Jesus in the midst of it all? Advent is about celebrating the arrival of the most important person to ever be born, and yet it is easy to make this season about all the extra stuff. Making Christmas about Christ will take real...

Have you ever paused and wondered what life is really all about? Those deep, lingering questions like, “What’s my purpose? What am I truly meant to do with my time on this earth?” You’re not alone. Even the disciples wrestled with those same thoughts—constantly seeking clarity as Jesus revealed the “why” behind the “what.” This weekend, we peeled back the layers, getting to the heart of why we’re...

The sin we have called out in this series is called Greed. Greed is not just a bad habit, or just a product of capitalism, it is idolatry according to the Bible and it will take much life from us. In a world that works hard to erase our definition and awareness of sin, the reality is we will never be able to ignore sin. We will always feel the ramifications sin has in our lives and the world aroun...

Our series, “In Cash We Trust” was titled this way to acknowledge the reality that even as believers sometimes we struggle with really trusting God. If we're honest, there are often times when our knowledge would say, "I trust God," but our actions say, "no, actually I trust money". So why the disconnect? The answer to that was at the heart of our conversation this week. Learning what's at the cor...

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” This is one of the verses that most people know, both inside and even outside the church. We can freely quote it to others, and we think it is generally true. In our hearts we can often hear another voice saying, “I’m not so sure, I think another pair of Vuori shorts might make me feel pretty blessed.” But this promise means it’s from the mouth of Jesu...

This series is about money. But really it's about trust. In fact, the money God gives us to steward in this life shows him if we truly trust him and if he can truly trust us. The Bible is very clear in Luke 16:10 that God already knows if he can trust us with more based on how faithful or trustworthy we are with what we have right now. The reality is, we often want more before giving more or pract...

Jesus talks about money more than anything else in the Gospels. 11 of his 39 parables are about finances as he talks about it more than heaven and hell combined. But why is that? Is it because Jesus cares so much about money? No. It's because he knows we care so much about money. Jesus wants to free us from the grip of money so we can have it without it having us.  The truth is, money is not the r...

Some of us can admit today that the only reason we are in church or still in church is because we have encountered God. Although miracles, signs, wonders, and emotions cannot anchor our faith, our God is an experiential God. He is not merely a subject we learn about, but a God we encounter. When we read scripture, it is encounter after encounter of desperate and thirsty people who longed for a tou...

When we think of the Holy Spirit, there's a lot of images that come to mind. Maybe you think of the gentle whisper in 1 Kings 19 or the dove descending upon Jesus in Matthew 3. But no doubt one of the most powerful and enduring images of the Holy Spirit is that of him coming upon the disciples as a rushing wind and tongues of fire on the day of Pentecost. This moment catalyzed some of the most pow...

When we wake up each morning there is perhaps the greatest invitation from Jesus on this side of eternity that is offered to us. John 15:4, Jesus says, "If you abide in me, I'll abide in you." Jesus is saying, "If want to meet with me, know I want to meet with you. I'm available." But how do we actually ABIDE? What does that look like practically? This Sunday we unpacked a simple way we can abide...

"Holy Spirit Come" is not just of a phrase or sermon title, it's a prayer, a cry of the heart. But sometimes we don't pray this prayer because of three reasons we will unpack on Sunday: We're distracted. We're used to relying on our own power. We don't understand who the Holy Spirit is.  The Holy Spirit is depicted in scripture in many different ways, as a dove, a rushing wind, a fire, oil, a clou...

This Sunday is a highlight day. It's not hard to have faith on highlight days. But if we told you every day leading up to now has felt like a highlight day, we would be lying to you. Often in life we have more hardship days than highlight days. We long to see highlight moments with God, but God often makes us wait for them. Waiting on God is not always fun, but anyone in the Bible who followed God...

This week we closeed out our series, This Is The Way, by looking at John 21, which in many ways leads us back to the beginning. John 21 deals with the restoration of Peter. Peter's denial of Jesus has caused a rift to form in their relationship, and this story helps us to find the answer to the ever-important question: how does God handle our failures? Part of what we learn in the story is that th...

God loves faith, He promises to move mountains when He sees even a “Mustard seed” of faith in a person. The Bible tells the story of God doing everything He can to move us to a place of faith and trust. There is a whole chapter in Hebrews 11 that highlights the great exploits of faith taken by the main characters in the Bible. And yet, when we look at the lives of men like Abraham (“Father or fait...
