Capt. Marty's Outer Banks Fishing Report & Stories

Kicking off Day 3 with a hook up!! The Play It By Ear is currently hooked up and fighting a monster! Will it make it back to be weighed? Only time will tell. A tad stormy out here at the pavilion but that isn’t going to stop the party and there’s a change in the leaderboard! 

THEY’VE BOATED A BLUE MARLIN! The Play It By Ear has boated a blue one and are on their way back to the docks! Exciting stuff!! Once we have an approximate ETA and weight of fish we will be back to share those details. 

Capt. Marty sticks his head out of the control room to get us speed with the blue marlin that’s on the way back to the docks!!

Pretty solid day of fishing all the way around! I'll tell ya what's been going on in today's report as well as a recap from Day 1 of the Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament. Justin and I are going to be at the communications table out front of the pavilion all week from 4-6pm so stop by and say hello!

Capt. Marty goes through a few more of the details of the tournament. He explains more about the photo verification & the “sonar” versus the “non-sonar” and how the points work in that regard. 

Wrapping up day one with the final score card as well as the captain’s final thoughts on the day.

WOW! What a great couple of days for the Alice Kelly Memorial Ladies Only Tournament! LOTS of fish were caught! It's tournament time here on the Outer Banks! We just wrapped up the 22nd Annual Boatbuilders Tournament a few weeks ago and now we are gearing up for the Alice Kelly and Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournaments. Capt. Fishing was kind of hit or miss depending on where you were. Offshore was dependent on that, and so were a few places closer to the beach but the sound was pretty solid with the drum and speckle trout. Gonna talk more about that plus some Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament coverage in this report. Don't forget tomorrow morning my Other Side of Fishing show will be dropping at 6am! 

Conditions are continuing to be breezy along the Outer Banks but people are still braving the weather and catching some fish! Gonna talk more about what was caught as well as a few other things... the upcoming Alice Kelly and Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament AND the Miss Oregon Inlet II Youth Tournament from this past Monday!

A bounce back day BIG TIME from the last few days. Fishing was pretty daggum good yesterday on all fronts. Makes for a great set up to the Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament next week. I'll talk all about that plus the latest from the White Marlin Open in Ocean City, Maryland!

The HOT topic from over the weekend was the COOL and breezy weather! Nice little false fall we are having right now but the weather will heat up again at some point. Fishing was kinda slow, mainly due to the windy conditions but there were a few that scrapped out some catches. Had a little hiccup in technology yesterday so we apologize for not getting a fishing report up, however the fishing has been pretty solid on all fronts of the Outer Banks the last few days. Great catches just about everywhere! I'll talk all about it in this report.

Dolphin seemed to be the hot topic over the last few days (the fish, not the porpoise!!)!! I'll talk to you more about that plus all other fishing news in today's report,

Typical fishing taking place right now for this time of the year. What does that mean exactly? I'll explain in this report and also talk about a specific fish that is lighting up the Pamlico Sound right now!

Not a bad weekend of fishing! Some had great catches, others had some ok catches. Lots to go over today, plus the results from the 22nd Annual Dare County Boatbuilders Tournament at Pirate's Cove!
