Capt. Marty's Outer Banks Fishing Report & Stories

BLUEFIN TUNA!!!! Good golly!! Lots of them being caught right now! I'll give you the lowdown on all of that plus the action that is still taking place in the back country in this report.

Not a bad weekend at all! The temps were pretty funky but the fishing was not, as far as the offshore, Ramp 55 in Hatteras and back country reports are concerned. I'll get you up to speed from the weekend (to include Friday) in this report. 

Not too much activity has taken place over the last few days but there has been some fish caught. I'll get you up to speed with what and where in this report.

We are officially into bluefin tuna season both commercially and recreationally. Gonna get you up to speed with what's going on in that world, other fishing worlds and give you an idea of where some of our boats go during the winter months!

Happy New Year!! We are officially in 2026 and there's some fish already being caught in the new year. Where? Listen up and I'll get you all squared away!

Happy New Year's Eve everyone! We've knocked 2025 in the head and looking forward to a bountiful fishing harvest in 2026! I got your last report of the year and it's not too shabby!

Hope you had a Merry Christmas!! Minimal fishing report today... not a whole lot of activity but there was some fishing done so I'll get you up to speed with what's going on and what to expect in this report. 

Not much fishing at all has happened over the last few days so I figured I'd take a moment to tell you a Christmas story about my first Christmas away from home when I was fishing down in the Florida Keys. It was a special moment that's for sure!

Even though things may be a tad slower there was still fishing done over the weekend. I'll get you up to speed with what and where in this report!

A long time tradition at the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center is to get "creeked" when you catch your first billfish of the year. Well, our ol' pal Capt. Marty is going to tell you all about the "Creekin' Committee" and how it came about and what happened one day when trying to creek someone! 

Not too much to update you on from the last few days but I do have some bright spots in today's report.

Has it been cold?? Nahhhh.... hahaha just kidding! It has been FRIDGID but that hasn't stopped the fish from biting! Getting you up to speed from the last few days!

You need to go fishing... but Marty it's cold outside.... fry 'em up in the kitchen.. but Marty it's COLD OUTSIDE!! Hahaha yes, indeed it is cold outside but believe it or not there were fish caught over the weekend! I'll get you up to speed on all that on this COLD MONDAY!

Blow days happen but when you have multiple blow days in a row, that's when some of the captains can get into mischief! In this story Capt. Marty tells us about how he, Capt. John Bayliss, Capt. Mike Merritt and (believe it or not) Capt. Omie Tillett got into some mischief with Capt. Lee Perry. So how does a shark and the State Bureau of Investigation get woven into this? Kind of a slow last couple of days overall but fishing in the surf has been where its at. I'll talk to you about that as well as some bluefin talk from the offshore side of things and speckled trout talk from the back country!

Here's the latest from the fishing world over the last few cold and windy days! Someone tell the Lord to cut the AC off!

Back on that fishing rollercoaster! The weekend was packed full of fishing activity, namely the Bluefin just off the beach in certain spots. Where? Listen and I'll tell you!

Back in Capt. Marty's younger days at Ponce Inlet, FL, he worked on a head boat called 'The Flamingo' with Capt. Jake Stone. When they didn't have trips booked they would occasionally do some commercial fishing overnight in the ocean. How does a payphone come into play? Let's let Capt. Marty tell you the story...

A pre-Thanksgiving fishing report. I hope each of you have a very Happy Thanksgiving and I will be back next week to update you on what all took place over the holiday.

This were a tad slower offshore yesterday, but the beach fishing and the back country fishing made up for it. I'll get you up to speed with it all in this report.

The weekend was a HUGE bounce-back from last week! Had a gold-star catch in the Hatteras fleet plus lots of different species being hooked up from all over, even on the freshwater side! I'll talk all about it in this report.
