The Cape Cod Canal 04.11.2024

As early as 1600, a canal was discussed to make passage for ships easier than facing our outer banks. A shipwreck every two weeks made the journey around the Cape a huge hazard and one many ship owners and Ship's captains avoided. Stay tuned as this isthmus becomes a canal and see the comlexities the engineers encountered.

We begin with Sylvanus B. Phinney who founded the papeer in 1803 at 22 years of age, and the many mergers the newspaper had over the years. We also touch on the home he built here and never lived in whch the Barnstable Historical Society purchased and offers it as a museum. Stay tuned.
