Peace is an elusive thing. That is, unless the source of your peace comes not from human effort but from the Prince of Peace. We celebrate the first Advent as we await the final fulfillment of Isaiah's prophesy at the second Advent, the second coming of Christ.

Isaiah 91-7 Thinking of God as our father can bring us joy or pain. We all have experiences with our earthly fathers that translates to how we see God. Regardless of how good or bad your dad was, your bar is set too low. Turn off your cynicism for a few minutes to hear what God wants to give to you this year.

God always finds a way forward especially when the odds are stacked against you. Israel has a battle to win, but the enemy flees and the day is growing short. They need a little more time. Joshua asks God to stop the sun from setting, and He does! When it seemed impossible to finish the task at hand God made a way for His people. God still makes the impossible possible.

Right after a major victory at Jericho things go downhill. Israel surprisingly loses their next battle. The reason: sin. One person disobeyed God and threatens to derail the entire mission. God deals seriously with this sin because sin is that serious. Sin is communal. We like to only think about what sin does to us as an individual. Sin hurts everyone even if it doesn’t practically appear to be.

You can join God’s side or fight against Him; the choice is yours. Jericho, the first obstacle in the Promised Land is on the horizon.
