We record a brand new intro, as well as give updated answers to our lightning bolt questions. Enjoy! Podcast Links:  SUPPORT US ON PATREON: ...

We are wrapping up our Camp Half-Podyssey summer (even though it's late September, oops) with a discussion of our favorite, and most unhinged, Odyssey parallels in media! We each present the case for two different movies and argue why they're Odyssey parallels. The movies include: The Spongebob Movie (2004), Oh Brother Where Art Thou (2000), Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993), a...

Our final part of our Epic: The Musical review is here! We are joined again by Avelaka to talk about the second half of the songs on the concept album. Discussions include the “synth-y cello,” the consequences of your actions, man vs. monster (or, muppet), the meaning of ruthlessness as mercy, the spirit of Lin Manuel Miranda, the whoosh of it all, and how much we love Penelope. Thank you to all o...

Welcome back to Summer Camp Half-Podyssey! Our long-awaited review of Epic: The Musical is FINALLY here. We are joined by a return guest, our friend Avelaka, resident theater kid. We set out originally to do one episode on Epic, but ended up talking for so long that we have to do two parts. Ya’ll were right – this musical is great. We discuss the origin of Jorge Rivera-Herron’s music and then dive...

Welcome to Summer Camp Half-Podyssey! We’re back for some fun, summer episodes all about Odysseus. Starting off, naturally, with a review of the new movie starring Matt Damon. We give our unfiltered, inexpert review of the movie based completely on vibes and our in-depth Percy Jackson knowledge. Topics of discussion include: nuance, Matt Damon’s arms, Matt Damon’s stunt double’s arms, bad dialog,...

We’re finally caught up on all the Riordanverse books (again!) (minus Kane Chronicles!). These chapters are arguably the most chaotic chapters we’ve ever read. Dolus and Apate mess with The Mist. Everyone is a cat. Everyone is then in Halloween costumes. Will is a banana? Pirithous is eventually caught, and really wants to be punished. He’s a man who loves rules. Hecate shows up to help restore ev...

New Percy Jackson news to discuss! Also new monsters to deep dive on! Chaos breaks out in these chapters. Hazel exposes Pirithous’s evil plan to capture a god and manipulate minor gods with his secret weapon. He tries to manipulate all the mythics. These chapters have a pretty poignant political message, sandwiched in between confusing plot points. Kelli comes back, and she still sucks! The camper...

This week, Nico is diving into his trauma and healing. We are diving into the Blemmyae! Back at camp, Nico connects with Savannah over their grief, and gets to be the supportive figure he always wished he had. Hazel is still stuck in the invisible park prison, but a mom comes to the rescue – Naomi Solace! Naomi tells the campers what’s going on with the mythics and Hazel, and they concoct a plan t...

We’re at the meat of this story – Nico, Will, and Hazel find out what’s been going on with the Court of the Dead. The mythics are being judged for being different. Erin is judging the plot of this book. The Court of the Dead hates change, and charges Asterion and our girl Hazel with Crimes. Manasa gives us some lore on Bloody Mary. Hazel is taken away by the Court and Nico has some really sad drea...

The campers all band together to come up with a plan to capture whoever is taking the mythics. Erin and Manasa get distracted talking about Barbie Fairtyopia. Erin’s dogs are playing so much during this episode that we didn’t bother to edit them out. They are a part of this. We deep dive on Laverna for a moment. Hazel, Nico, and Will head to downtown San Francisco to go to court. It's time for...

Erin and Manasa begin their Percy Jackson podcasting by debriefing the Big Animorphs News, naturally (perchance… a new podcast idea??? Stay tuned). Will there now be explicit Animorphs references in the Disney+ PJO adaptation? Crossover musical episode? Just kidding (unless…). Erin points out that the plot of this book is just like Halloweentown 3, Halloweentown High. The mythics have a hard time...

Erin starts off with pretending like she never was weird about the Minotaur. She’s gaslighting herself. We wonder if this is the same story as The Sun and the Star but with lower stakes. The mythics struggle to fit in at Camp Jupiter. Mr. D provides some telehealth therapy. Then, we are joined via audio messages by a listener Chloe, who gives us a super thorough deep dive on the Minotaur’s name. E...

We're back!!!! Finally, we tackle Court of the Dead, the sequel to The Sun and the Star. We have a lot of questions. First of all, who gave Mr. D a license to practice therapy??? Also, why is he suddenly nice? The premise of this book is juicy and hilarious, and we get to meet this new version of the Minotaur, or should we say, Asterion. Erin doesn't find him as hot now that he's a good guy. We do...

We are back to give our thoughts on Season 2 of the Disney+ Percy Jackson and the Olympian series. We discuss our favorite changes, least favorite changes, and all the fan reactions we've seen on the internet. We are bringing back Season Superlatives, and announce the categories this time around. Please vote here ! Then, we announce our plans for a Live 200th Episode Show and what book we'...

SEASON 2 FINALE!!!!! (screaming, crying, throwing up). This week, we're discussing Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians Episode 8 of Season 2, "The Fleece Works Its Magic Too Well." We discuss the art of adaptation and adjusting themes to be relevant to current times. What do we do when our leaders aren't standing up for us? We protect our own, that's what. There are...

It's time to invade a cruise ship, everyone. This week, we're discussing Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians Episode 7 of Season 2, "I Go Down With The Ship." Let it be known we're not entirely sure what ship is being referred to here. This episode deviates from the book the most, and we go deep into our thoughts on each change. Some? We like. Some? We're holdin...

The gang is all here on Polyphemus's island (and it's not a tropical, relaxing island vacation). This week, we're discussing Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians Episode 6 of Season 2, "Nobody Gets The Fleece." Percy's fatal flaw is out and about this episode, and we aren't complaining. We say the word "interesting" like 37 times and work on our pronunciation of Thalia. Percy and Annabeth's p...

This episode may be our new holy grail of Percabeth moments. We too would burn it all down for Annabeth!!! We talk about all the deviations they made from the books, and why they may have done that. What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to be hero? This episode gets into so many of the themes we've been tracking. Sally Jackson is constantly haunting (positive) the narrative. We give...

Buckle up, folks, because this might be our favorite episode yet. Chalked full of flashbacks, Percabeth moments, and killer special effects, we're discussing Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians Episode 4 of Season 2, "Clarisse Blows Up Everything." We ~dive~ into discussions about Clarisse and her loyalty, Percy's complete trust in Annabeth, and Manasa's fear of pronunciation. Be sure to fol...

We are in for another treat with this episode! We discuss Episode 3 of Season 2 of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Disney+ show, "We Board the Princess Andromeda." This episode is about Clarisse, and also about Luke's MLM. WHO is the head of Kronos's marketing team? Also, what is Allison Sims's backstory? This show has successfully converted us into Clarisse supporters. They won't get us yet o...

EPISODE 2!!!! We're so excited to talk about Episode 2 of the Disney+ Percy Jackson and the Olympians show, "Demon Pigeons Attack." We love the chariot race scene, and Mariah Carey to the rescue. We, naturally, spend a while talking about Percabeth and the tension between Annabeth and Percy. Clarisse gets a quest, but it already isn't going to go as planned. Percy tries to run aw...

SEASON 2, BABY! We are here to discuss all the good stuff in episode 1 of season 2 of the Disney+ show, "I Play Dodgeball With Cannibals." We chat about all the changes, and are obsessed with the new way the empathy link is described. The Percabeth moments in this episode are to die for, and we're only on season 2. We are so ready for all 8 episodes!!! Links : SUPPORT US ON PATREON: h...

On our final Sea of Monsters re-listen episode, we finish up the last two chapters of the book and make final predictions for the second season of the show. We reminisce on how much we love the ending of Sea of Monsters. We ask important questions, like what kind of punk is Thalia going to be in the show?, Do trees have dreams?, and How the heck does an empathy link work? Be sure to follow us on s...

We're at the climax of the book! Neither of us have great memories, so it was fun to revisit how this book ends. Percy and friends defeat Polyphemus. Manasa has a theory about our three brains, which we both completely forgot about. Is Percy a colonizer? Is Polyphemus a colonizer? Actually, why does Polyphemus even have the fleece? Clarisse gets to have her hero moment, and we discuss how much...
