Calvary Nexus Sunday Sermons

Because Christ holds all authority, commands every follower to make disciples, and promises His Presence to the end of the age, we are empowered, commissioned, and sustained as Jesus-followers to be disciples and make disciples.

Spiritual disciplines are a means to grow as disciples of Jesus. Today, we learn about the spiritual disciplines of Bible learning, contemplation and prayer and their value in our spiritual growth.

Calvary Nexus’ mission flows from the Great Commandments: to love God supremely, love neighbors as self, and the Great Commission to make disciples (who do likewise). Today, we will learn a process that will allow all of us to engage in this mission and grow in Christ.

Because salvation is accomplished by Christ rather than earned through human effort, believers are transformed by the Holy Spirit to bear spiritual fruit, do good, and boast only in the cross of Christ. This is how true freedom is experienced.

Believers who walk in step with the Holy Spirit will increasingly display the fruit of the Spirit that reflects God’s character, reject the sinful desires of the flesh, and live in the freedom that Christ offers. 

The way to be right with God is through faith in Christ. Followers of Christ will not abuse their Christian liberty as license to sin. Jesus’ followers know God’s love, love God and love and serve others. Today, we’ll discover the value of serving God by serving others.

The way to be free in Christ is to stay grace centered, keep trusting Christ and loving God and neighbors, and keep running free and well. Today, we discover how together.

The gospel of grace and the law of legalism cannot coexist. Paul makes an appeal to the Galatian believers that is aimed both at the heart (feeling) and the head (logic). Let’s discover how we experience the grace of God that Paul is teaching about.

When we seek acceptance from God through performance-based religion, it results in bondage, but through the Gospel we are adopted by our Heavenly Father on the basis of Christ's righteousness. The result is sonship and heavenly inheritance, which frees us to glorify God through our experienced adoption.

The New Covenant of grace is superior to the Old Covenant of law. It is a better promise, better purpose and better blessings. Let’s discover the answer to the question, “How do people receive God’s blessing?”

In Genesis 49 God speaks a final blessing through Jacob to his 12 sons. In this blessing, we see that God’s grace is greater than our failures, God’s plan is greater than our present challenges, and both are demonstrated by His promises. God is trustworthy.

Jacob and his clan had left the land of promise and were now settled in Egypt. God foretold that the family would remain in Egypt for 400 years. Will the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob ever redeem the promised land? Jacob’s blessing upon his sons and grandsons shows his unwavering faith in God’s promises. Life is a journey. The start is physical birth, but the true beginning is regeneration (spiritual rebirth); and the goal is Christlikeness and eternal life with your Savior.
