Black Whole of Love (2) 30.12.2023

I wrote this song. Ralph Warchol's girlfriend at the time, Mia DiSantis, sang lead vocal. Ralph sang backing vocal and played electric guitar. I was on electric bass and also sang backing vocal. We got the drum track from an LP. The song was longer than the drum track, so we ended it before the last verse got in. This was recorded in Ralph's luxurious basement outfitted with his quarter inch reel-...

I Am An Illusion (Like My Hippie Father Say) 30.12.2023

"Planets, comets are not my friends now. Personalities crowd their crowns. Leave it all to the ancient ChiTao. Universe has got the downs. And the piper plays the pipie And the worker digs the way And I am an illusion like my hippie father say 'Cause the glue stuck in my head Like that good ol' Yesterday. Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba Like a child from the mother emerging We are rising from the sphere....

I Do I Do 29.12.2023

My very talented friend Ralph Warchol outfitted his luxurious basement with a quarter inch reel-to-reel 8 channel recorder. Ralph wrote this, sang lead and backing vocal and played all of the instruments, if memory serves. He got the drums from an LP. This was probably recorded in very late 1982 or 1983.

Beautiful Day 28.12.2023

My very talented friend Ralph Warchol purchased a quarter inch reel-to-reel 8 channel recorder with which he outfitted his luxurious basement. Ralph wrote this and played all of the instruments except for the drum track which he got from an LP. We both sang backing vocal, if memory serves. This was probably recorded in very late 1982 or 1983.

Play Something 27.12.2023

Ralph Warchol and I had fun in the recording studio. Ralph plays the beautifully improvised acoustic guitar while I scratch in a siren from a sound effects record. As recording engineer, I also applied tricks with the echo while he played. In this way we improvised with each other live. This was recorded at Faith Chapel Radio Recording Studio in Berwyn (yes, Svengoolie's Berwyn). I had access to t...

Guttersnipe 2 26.12.2023

Michael Wayne Davis wrote the song lyrics and I wrote the music to his words. He remarked that the music was a departure from what he wanted but he didn't come up with anything to replace it. I sang lead vocal but I didn't know all of Mike's lyrics so I improvised some. I played electric guitar. Ralph Warchol played electric guitar, electric bass, sang backup. I don't hear Mike on this recording....

Clyde Meets the Aliens 25.12.2023

"Time is 12:23, last place I wanna be. When will it come? I've been waitin' for an hour And my stomach's feelin' sour. How late's the train run? He doesn't know we're up here. He'll never guess. We're gonna soak him in light. Set the coordinates. Clyde, Clyde, Clyde: read the writing on the wall. When will it come? Writing on the Wall She thinks she's got me on her pinky. She makes me hot 'cause s...

Synth Jam 24.12.2023

I recorded this piece sometime after January 1981 when I began working at Faith Chapel Radio Recording Studio in Berwyn, Illinois (yes, Svengoolie's Berwyn). My friend Michael Davis jammed on his electronic synthesizer and rhythm equipment that he brought along. I vocalized at the beginning and we vocalized together toward the end. As recording engineer, I applied tricks with the echo while he pla...

Musical Sketch: Beth 23.12.2023

Michael Davis and I wrote this musical sketch. Mike played electronic synthesizer and rhythm equipment that he had. I played some kind of organ. Note to self: we probably recorded this in Mike's Chicago apartment on West School Street near North Racine Avenue sometime in or after 1979? Or was it the loft that Mike later rented on Division? near Ashland? I acquired my Strat after reading "The Heavy...
